email cost Thompson a major
With a 3 stroke lead Lexi Thompson was on her way to the 13th tee in the final round of the ANA Inspiration. When a LPGA official approached her to inform her she has been penalized 4 strokes. WHY?????

Seems that the LPGA had gotten an email from a TV viewer which said that Thompson has miss placed her ball by ONE INCH the previous day. So she was penalized 2 shots for the misplacement and another 2 for a wrong score card.

One of the most ridiculous things in all sports is this nonsense of viewers calling in and tattling on silly golf situations that have zero impact on play, but totally destroy the outcome of the event. Especially a day later.

It would be like if the NCAA allowed someone to call in about a basketball game, and when they reviewed the tape, they see a player drag his pivot foot. So they take a 10-point victory away from a team and cause them to forfeit.

And I know the self-policing culture and honor code. The intent of those rules was cheating. These events are almost never cheating, nor do they impact play.

A reporter contact the head official in 2008 and suggested a review of Rose's shot clock beating 3.

In that game...Rose hit a three point shot.
They ran another offensive and defensive play...before the officials got together to check out that shot...and changed it to a two pointer.
I mean come on....let them run another play before they challenged the shot?

That's actually the NCAA rule at the time. You don't stop the game to review whether a 3 or 2 point shot was taken, it is reviewed at the next dead ball.

Had the reporter done it the next day, it would've been even worse.
