I think this is one of the deeper tournaments. UTA is the clear favorite though.
Coastal and Little Rock are deep sleepers.

Who is your winner?

Who is your sleeper?

Troy is the sleeper. That Varnado guy has to be one of the best in-the-paint players in college basketball.

Yeah, we could win it, or flame out spectacularly. That's the rub, we have to play someone we won't show up for first. I'd rather have a path where we play seeds 1-3 the whole way, we just might pull it off.

We are so guard outside-oriented. We struggle vs anyone with quality inside players. rebounding has been a problem all year. I doubt many teams go 4-7 down the stretch and still get a 3 seed. I don t have very high hopes for us

Apps sneak by Troy, beat GS in a free throw battle, then shocks GA St by shooting 40% from three.

Then of course we lose by 30 to the champs.

RE: 2017 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
There's two teams I fear on the men's side, Troy and Georgia State. Troy has the ability to shoot lights out from the outside, which has been an issue in our losses. Georgia State has the ability to to play inside out and we are normally good against that, but it took a broken-play three to escape Atlanta with a win.

On the women's side, Troy also scares me. If we are on our game, they match up best. Little Rock beat us at home after we controlled the game for three and a half quarters. If they focus, we can beat anyone.

The good news for us I guess is that everyone is now playing on the road, except for maybe the Louisiana teams, who we most likely won't play again anyways.

ULM could easily beat us the way we are playing right now.

If not them, we probably beat Texas State and UTA just to prove me wrong.

Georgia Southern is a total coin flip in any game.

The Eagles showed the ability to blow Ga. State out of the water and had spurts against UTA where they looked like they could have taken control with one or two more good possessions.

Then again, they've lost to three of the bottom four seeds and needed a 17-point comeback to avoid a loss to ULM. I know that most teams have on and off days, but the highs and lows of GS seem to be more extreme and often occur in 5-10 minute stretches instead of from game to game.

I think in our 7 conference losses we had a double-digit lead at one time in at least 5 of them.

Sounds about right. I know that the losses at App and CCU were the two where we never looked good at all. Not sure we ever led UTA by double digits, but - like I said - there was definitely a point late in the first half and/or early in second where another couple of stops by the defense and scores by the offense could have broken the game open and not allowed the Mavs to be patient and break us down inside.

UTA's loss to Louisiana will motivate them. I see no land mines in their way to the finals.

The other bracket could be won by four teams.

It definitely seems like it's UTA's for the taking.

Aside from getting a bye, I wasn't too concerned about the seeding. I was much more concerned about the matchups that teams will run into.

A 4-7 finish was far from pretty for Georgia Southern, but by dumb luck, things have set up for them as well as they could have hoped. Not only did the Eagles get a bye, but the dominoes fell just right to bump them to the No. 3 seed, keeping them opposite from the Mavericks in the bracket.

The Eagles also avoid pretty much every team that is a matchup problem for them. They have yet to figure out South Alabama's defense and both CCU and stAte had enough diversity in their scoring to force the Eagles to have to play near their best. All of those teams are on the other side of the bracket.

And while the Cajuns are the only team on Southern's half of the bracket that the Eagles swept, I'd rather take my chances knowing that a good showing by the Eagle offense (and considering their flaws with rebounding and inside scoring) has a better chance of beating App, Troy and Ga. State than some of the other teams in the tournament.

If we're hot we are lighting up the board 3 points at a time.

If we're not we are missing shots and have nobody down low to get rebounds.

All we have is a perimeter game, hence why we are so up and down.

Yup. A 12-point loss to App or Troy wouldn't be the most shocking thing. And while a tournament title would be a bit surprising, anyone who has seen the GS offense at its best would have to concede that it's hard to keep up with.

Any chance at two tourney bids if UTA is upset in the conference tournament?
