RE: Dr Lyke
Dear EagleTough,
I agree. Did you see our friend at the Free Press, Mr. Jesse, report in his first paragraph how Dr. Lyke was leaving, and then go right back to the same old same old baloney about Eastern's struggling athletic department? I think the Detroit media has a vendetta against Eastern.

Press release on Lyke leaving: http://emueagles.com/news/2017/3/20/gene...ector.aspx
Contains this: "She will remain with Eastern through next Monday. We will name an interim Director of Athletics before her departure and will launch a national search for her replacement. All ongoing programs and initiatives currently underway in Athletics will remain in our plans and continue to move forward, allowing such time as necessary for a new athletic director to be brought on board to lead these initiatives in the future."
Again, I'm almost positive Spears will be the interim, and will be the leading candidate for the job. Only question is does he want it?

Thanks, Frank.
I assume you are implying that Spears has two basic options:
1). Apply and presumably become the AD at EMU.
2). Accept say a deputy or asst AD at Pitt with Heather.
I would assume that Spears would love to be the AD and build the athletic facilities. My sense is that Spears is a 'builder'. the bigger the better.
I have no ideas how the dollars between two prospective jobs shake out.

Big fish in a small bowl or small fish in a bigger bowl. I would consider EMU AD a very attractive job right now. I see us getting some very quality candidates. Should be interesting.

another paragraph:
""The opportunity to work in a Power Five conference, and at an institution that is 90-minutes away from her family, represents a logical personal and professional move for Heather," Smith added. "She will remain with Eastern through next Monday. We will name an interim Director of Athletics before her departure and will launch a national search for her replacement. Not sure why he wouldn't, with the football program finally competitive, and major facilities upgrades in the works. Lyke took the big chance, and did the heavy lifting........it's now tee'd up perfectly for someone to finish.

Haters gonna hate......
New AD just needs to get the Regents to sign off on this facilities project, keep momentum with full renderings.....and shovels in the ground ASAP thereafter, and keep the football program in bowl games, and eventually the MAC Championship hunt.
Piece of cake! Haha

RE: Dr Lyke
Agree with ET-thats a dumb, 'filler' sentence. Everybody knew Lyke was going to move on (its the MAC, where you fail or move on). I just expected her to stay another year or so.
I really like Spears and agree he is a good candidate.

BTW, I would be fascinated to know a timeline for this project.
Why I say this? Well, it sounds like MAJOR disruptions to football and track and field, for starters.
Things like losing the track inside Rynearson. Tearing down the existing football building. Other things like lights, scoreboard, etc. Upgraded lights part of the project. Obviously, the scoreboard is gone when the existing football building is demoed. The new scoreboard wouldn't be up until the new football building is completed.
Don't know if this is a project which would begin after the last home football game and need to be finished by the start of the football season. New T&F facilities would need to be up for the start of the outdoor T&F season.

RE: Dr Lyke
Christian Spears just tweeted this: "Heather Lyke did an amazing job for us here at EMU. She will be deeply missed and we are grateful for her tremendous leadership."
Just a tweet, but doesn't sound like he's planning on going anywhere.

Promoted Keen from within, do the same with Spears. Especially if he's one of the driving forces behind the facilities plan, as Steve seems to think. Very experienced, great resume, ready to finish what Lyke started.....what else could EMU want? http://www.emueagles.com/staff.aspx?staff=344
They just need to hire the guy, instead of overthinking this and screwing it up! Even looks like a football player, so that's another bonus. :)
Listening to Brogan's recent Spring Ball interview, he seems excited by the change at OC. Thinking more and more that this change is going to be a positive thing for our offense moving forward. Keen is definitely more hands on, and upbeat with the entire offense. Much more of a players coach, while also being very knowledgeable and experienced. Would be great if it worked out half as well as the change at DC.

Agree and thanks for the insights.
Pivoting to FB, I think we are all very happy with the coaching staff esp. with CC and his coordinators.

Super, as much as we know that you love EMU, I don't think we could hire you because all of the budget would go toward women's sports.
