Restaurant Tells American Legion Officers to Remove Vests
http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/...vests.html

Quote:American Legion officers say they were told they weren't permitted to wear their affiliated jackets at a Dave & Buster's in Michigan because they showed evidence of gang affiliation.

Victor Murdock and Adrienne Brown of the American Legion Riders Post 179 out of Grandville say they were told they couldn't wear their vests inside the Kentwood restaurant. The vests have patches of the American flag, the Prisoner of War flag and a bald eagle.

The Texas-based company said in a statement that the group was asked to remove the jackets or turn them inside out because the business' dress code prohibits evidence of gang affiliation. Spokeswoman April Spearman said the policy was in place "to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy themselves in a fun and safe environment."

"Though we understand that the American Legion promotes a positive mission, for consistency reasons we cannot allow motorcycle jackets displaying patches or rockers," she said.

Quote:Spearman apologized for the frustration on behalf of the company.

"We are extremely grateful to all of our active military members and veterans and are honored to have them as valued guests in any of our locations," she wrote. "Our policies are in no way meant to be disrespectful and we apologize for any frustration this may have caused."

The apology was for any frustration their policy may have caused.....but no indication that the policy will be changed to reflect some COMMON DAMN SENSE.

Very sorry our policy ruined your night for no real reason and frustrated you but you need to get used to it.

And this is not an $8 an hour manager who made the decision. It is some well-paid MO-RON at the company headquarters who writes generic politically correct policies from behind a desk.

I would boycott them just for being stupid.

Their business, they can do what they want. But calling members of the AL "gang members" just lost them this guy as a customer.

I get their point about the "gang affiliation." If you make that rule, you have to enforce it absolutely or get sued.

The store where I shop requires me to show ID proof of age every time I buy a six pack. And I'm 72.

Horse crap... So if a school bus full of Catholic kids in uniform pulled up would they require the kids to removed their uniforms or turn them inside out.

The way I read the article, they were wearing leather vests that had a distinct similarity to gang regalia. Example:

I'll help out Dave & Busters confusion by not eating there.
