That's true but DePaul and Creighton went to a major conference, this would be going to the AAC from the MVC which are pretty comparable. I would avoid this bait if I were the Shocker. It would do more for the AAC than it would Wichita St

So the Missouri Valley and AAC are comparable? You know, I almost took the bait and put some thought into a response. Nah, though, it's just not worth it. Have your fun with your continuous diatribe knocking the AAC.

+1. It's not even worth it anymore.

Don't even mention the fact that WSU wants to restart their football program. If that's the case, then yes the AAC is much better than the MVC for that reason alone.

As with most of you I'm so sick of arguing with MD about this one, but just so we are clear, a move from the MVC to the AAC for basketball only would be better too.

Creighton has done fine. I doubt they regret leaving the MVC at all.

It's a pipe dream but I'd love to join the AAC for football only and jump to MVC for basketball.

I would avoid AAC at all costs. Not the kind of trap you want to fall into right now. AAC has serious questions on longevitiy. It's tough too because you would hate to leave MAC for basketball especially

Poor MVC, they're going to be like CAA and lose their best basketball schools.

I knew that was coming. I think staying in the MAC is the path to the FCS that you worry about. I understand that the MAC is a pretty good midmajor conference for basketball but I would prefer rivalries with ISU, SIU, Loyola, Bradley over the Michigan and Ohio schools.

Agreed, I'm tired of playing Michigan directional schools and Ohio teams. Attendance would go up.

IT IS A PIPE DREAM. NIU is not going to have dual membership in two different leagues, period. Comparisons to Creighton's move are crazy because Creighton doesn't worry about football. Comparisons to Wichita State are just as unequal because Wichita State's basketball program is held in much higher regard than that of the Huskies while the school -- which has tons of corporate backing -- might embrace building a football program; NIU has to keep its gridiron program from sinking further. The notion of the Huskies moving to the MVC isn't a cut and dried positive; MVC basketball minus Wichita State wouldn't be much of an upgrade over MAC hoops and would only happen if the football towel was thrown into accepting an FCS future.
Bottom line, NIU needs leadership that doesn't involve a G5 playoff.

Relax because it wasn't a real proposition. I know all the downfalls of split conferences etc. I was just thinking out loud about more meaningful basketball rivalries. I've also hoped for an Illinois basketball tournament which won't happen. Score radio guys brought it up the other day too but we were an after thought.

Looks like this is getting closer to happening. The AAC should be landing 3 - 4 NCAA bids a year now.

Still on par with the mighty MAC though! 03-lmfao

The quote from the coach about wanting to be at a program that can get at-large bids is pretty telling. Also why the MAC is farther than ever from being a two bid league. Great coaches will not stay in the MAC with the ceiling so low for a program. All the brand teams do when they moves conferences is take their bid with them. Akron was probably the most stable hoops team in the MAC over the last decade but never landed a single at-large despite 12 straight years of 20+ wins.

Correct, no coach would ever want to stay in a one bid league forever, it would drive you insane. The MAC has a major issue in this regard and is one of the many reason it will never be considered a major conference player in basketball.
