I think most would probably say Jarron Cumberland is the best freshman in the league, but because of minutes/role I would expect Quentin Rose to win the award.

RE: American Conference Hoops - Who Impressed This Year?
I'm a pretty casual basketball fan and don't pay much attention until March. But I'm really impressed that SMU has continued to excel without Larry Brown. Also Houston since they're a program I don't really associate with great basketball. Yes I'm aware of Houston's storied history, but my impression of all CUSA 2.0 schools is colored by Memphis' dominance of that conference so it's wild to see SMU, Houston, and UCF all ahead of the Tigers this year.

Jeremy Sheppard - PG

He was a true freshman, and I'm thankful UCF let him slip away. He had his ups and downs, but I really liked what I saw out of him this season.

Fingers crossed he doesn't transfer!

Yeah...Sheppard is a good young player but Dawkins decided to go with experience and size (5 redshirt transfers) as this was suppose to be a throw away year yet it turned out to be the best year in AAC for UCF.

Because of his HUGE mistake by Sheppard, UCF was able to complete its comeback for the win at ECU. (Coaches can NOT call timeouts anymore and when ECU's interim HC was calling for timeout...Sheppard didn't call it himself and let the ball bounce toward ref...which turned into this.......)

He played decent minutes, but he only started a few games. He still only played 30+ minutes 7 times, and 5 of those have come in the last 6 games. I think KJ is going to win it based on numbers, even though he played nearly 200 minutes last year. Q's per 40 stats are pretty solid, and I expect him to take it up a notch next year once he gets stronger and improves his handle and jumper.

Memphis and Temple need a dose of their long-standing basketball heritage to be re-established. UConn a mystery wrapped in an enigma this year under Kevin Ollie. USF, Tulane and ECU unfortunately are deadweight she around the ankles of this conference in hoops. Tulsa will be better next year, but they and virtually every school in this league deserve more fan support. Jankovich is Coach of the Year and Semi Ojelye is Player of the Year. Dedrick Lawson, Rob Gray, Jalen Adams, Sterling Brown, Shake Milton, Kyle Washington, Jacob Evans, Tacko Fall and DJ Taylor of UCF join Ojelye on the first and second teams as All-conference performers. Cincy and SMU both get to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
They lost 3 players for the season early on, injuries.

Ah, thought KJ was listed as a sophomore. Good call.

I filed a complaint with The U.N. for violations of the Geneva convention after the SMU game
