Didn't know the fielding could get worse. Now I do.

Mound visit already, on the 3-0 count. I'd guess it's words to the effect of, "You are kindly requested to please consider throwing strikes."

Myers responds to Graham's counsel with two strikeouts. Pepperdine makes nothing out of a leadoff single, error, and stolen base.

Whew! Called strike three on an inside-corner 3-2 pitch ends the Waves' threat.
0-0, heading to B1.

RE: Pepperdine Game 1
Our leadoff is a 3-pitch strikeout.
Make that two.

RE: Pepperdine Game 1
Some head-scratching camera direction on the CUSA.tv feed:
1) T1: Pepperdine batted singles through the left side; camera stays put ... with its tight crop, the 3rd baseman, left fielder and the ball cannot be seen. After an awkward pause, the view zooms into the runner approaching first.
2) B1: On the inning-ending fly to shallow center field, the camera follows Myers round second and heading to third, rather than showing the catch.
I hope that the much-touted weather-delayed improvements in the Reckling Park video capabilities, which will enable multi-camera coverage, also includes instruction to the camera operators and director on what makes for an informative and at least semi-professional-quality video feed of a baseball game.
ADDED:
2nd inning was much better. Camera tried to follow the ball/action. The only glitches I saw were 1) the unfortunate auto-exposure changes when the view includes more or less of the bright scoreboard while following the action, and 2) on the zoom to follow Chandler's fly out to deep center, the camera's auto-focus changed to focus on the screen behind the plate, leaving the play totally out of focus. Surely there must be ways to 1) lock the exposure to the field illumination levels (eliminating the variable auto-exposure) and to 2) exclude the near-field screen from the auto-focus's range of operation.

Chandler flies out. Nothing comes of the leadoff double, except that the hit total now equals the error total.

RE: Pepperdine Game 1
Leadoff walk. But Myers follows with some Ks and a fly out to CF, so it's just more frustration for Pepperdine. On to the B3.
