The Left's Crusade to Ruin Sports
Quote:Never discuss politics or religion, the old saying goes. Evidently, ESPN’s Jayson Stark would like to add sports to the list of taboo topics. In a recent article, Stark called out Major League Baseball players for their lack of public political engagement. Starks writes, “Is 2017 the time for a new code of conduct? Is it time for a more socially aware culture — in this, the sport of Jackie Robinson?” And why not? Both the NBA and NFL have capitulated to these PC police and have become little more than echo chambers for leftist social justice causes. The NBA and NCAA boycott against the state of North Carolina over its anti-transgender bathroom law clearly attests to this, as does the widespread kneeling in the NFL for the national anthem.
Never mind the fact that that many Americans tune into sports for the same reasons they go to the movies — to escape the often ugly reality of things like politics. In its purest form, sports pits superbly skilled athletes against each other in a win-or-lose competition. And that field of competition — not the field of politics — is where athletes are at their very best.
It’s true, of course, that American sports has a long history of individual athletes making social statements, but that is more a reflection of being an American with the constitutional protected right to freely express one’s opinions. Leftists who demand that our athletes become “social justice” warriors only do harm to our sports. Everything should not be about politics or social justice causes. Sports should just be about the game and the joy of fans watching those highly gifted individuals showcase their amazing talents. Don’t ruin baseball with incessant politics. Americans have always come together and cheered for sports, irrespective of race, religion, sex or political affiliation. Why ruin that?

So much to rebut here.
1) You guys never complained when sports figures like Tony Dungy, or Mark Chmura, Adrian Petersen, or Reggie White, or half the league got involved in either grandstanding quasi-political religious statements. Why now? BTW, the owner of the Houston Texans donated in favor of a campaign for him to keep Gay people off his team. The NFL is such a SJW echo chamber that they chose to name an award after a Fred Phelps level homophobe (Tony Dungy) after he overtly campaigned for the league to not hire Gay players.
2) The NBA, NHL, MLB, and the NFL have exactly ZERO out LGBT players. The NFL and MLB have NEVER had an openly Gay gameday roster player.
3) Progressives are actually the largest funders of professional sports. We, by virtue of where we live (cities) tend to be the people asked to pony up for new stadiums. We also have big fat payments to pro sports teams embedded in our must take cable contracts. P*ss off Gays, Blacks, and Hispanics.....good luck getting any new stadiums built.
4) People don't care about anything but sports. Take away someone's job....nobody cares. But mess with 'he man' sports, and you get attention. We have a little bit of leverage. We're going to use it.
In short, you never complained about politics in sports when it always was on your side, you don't pay as much for it (involuntarily too) as we do, and all of the pro-leagues are still very discriminatory and still venerate persons that should be unacceptable.

1. OK
2. Who cares?
3. Who's fault is that? You're the one choosing to live there. You act like you're proud that your cities are fleecing you to support your pro teams.
4. I care about a lot of things more than sports. I'd say that ESPN's free fall is evidence that we're finding other ways to spend our time and money. It could all collapse tomorrow and I wouldn't give a rat's behind.
Being in the minority must suck. Problem is when you cater to them too much you turn other people off. The non-stop racial crap on ESPN has gotten really old.

You are welcome to destroy sports as we know it. I'm a fan of a Sun Belt and an Atlantic 10 school. I could care less about pro sports. Tear 'em down. Would knock my cable bill down 300 bucks a year. And probably my tax bill too.

Exactly he was denied a chance to play because he was Gay. He was the SEC player of the year. NFL owners and venerated leaders support discrimination (overtly).
Don't think we're not bringing it up. Did you see how many people in San Diego voted for a new stadium, even though they knew that voting it down meant losing the team?
And now you guys are complaining because one or two things out of sports aren't 100% supportive of the alt right? Sorry, little snowflakes.

RE: The Left's Crusade to Ruin Sports
I love how white men created almost every sport yet leftists are trying to phase them completely out from playing and coaching them.
The NBA has only 23.3% white players.
The NFL has only 28.6% white players (and a lot of them play kicker or punter).
ESPN personalities go around crying that there's not enough minority coaches, quartersbacks, MLB players, NHL players so on and so on yet you never hear them complaining about the lack of white players in some sports.

In short, you never complained about politics in sports when it always was on your side, you don't pay as much for it (involuntarily too) as we do, and all of the pro-leagues are still very discriminatory and still venerate persons that should be unacceptable.
do you really want to go down this road again and have the same discussion we did a few months ago? Just remember the outcome.
The sports strategy is working.
is working as good as Michael Sam's NFL career.
Sorry, little snowflakes.
so Sam never got the change to play in the NFL because he was gay?

NO ONE CARES
People do not watch NFL football because they are concerned about the players private sex lives.
They watch the game because they love football or basketball and want to see competition.

Your a blatant liar and there really is no other way to put it.
Sam did not have NFL ability. He was too slow to play Linebacker and too small to be a lineman. He was given multiple chances and could not even make it in the Canadian leauge.
Stuff like this just exposes how FOS you really are.

Have you noticed how some white players are favored over others? Look at Tom Brady? He was not a great qb in college, and all people could remember of him is that he cheats to win the Super Bowl. Many MLB players cheated by taken banned substance for growth hormones to hit home runs and all that.
