Exclamation Examining the Non-Saturday football games in 2017 by conference
So far I've seen more non-Saturday games than ever in 2017:
MAC: Most games are weekday games. Every single MAC game played in November is scheduled on a weekday. Key rivalries are on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Worst time slots I've ever seen. ESPN networks

Sun Belt: Better than the MAC, but several key rivalries on Wednesday night's. ESPN

CUSA: only has a few games scheduled on national tv (espn) Expect most if not all of those to be weekday games. The non-television games should be all Saturday games as should most the regional TV games. Variety of regional networks.

MWC: No Tuesday, Wen or Thursday games. Saw a couple Friday games, and saw a note that some Saturday games could be pushed to Thursday or Friday for TV games on ESPN. Most Saturday games of the non P5 conferences. CBS-SN/ESPN networks

AAC and ACC media contracts owned 100% by ESPN.--expecting a lot of Thursday and Friday night games for both.

BYU: will play most of their home games on Friday nights. ESPN networks
Army:Should be all Saturday games. CBS-SN
UMASS: No national tv means most games will be Saturday. No National TV contract

Big 10-Has announced about 10 Friday night games this season. Fox/ESPN/BTN

PAC: will have several Friday night games. They prefer a Friday night games over Thursday games according to a scheduling announcement. ESPN/Fox/PAC12N

Big 12: Will play a a few Thursday and Friday night games. 2nd most Saturday games of any conference. ESPN/Fox

SEC: will play the fewest weekday games of any conference. CBS/ESPN
Cheers!

For the Belt, here are the home games.

USA - all home games on Saturday
ULL - 1 Thursday night game
Ga State - 2 Thursday night games. But one is on Labor Day weekend vs a FCS, which means Ga State wanted that game
Ga Southern - 1 Thursday night game
App - 1 Thursday night game
Coastal - all home games on Saturday
Texas State - all home games on Saturday
ULM -all home games on Saturday
Ark State - 1 Thursday night home game
Troy - 1 Wednesday night home game
NMSU - all home games on Saturday
Idaho - 1 Thursday night home game on Labor Day against a FCS.

So, 5 teams play all their home games on Saturday . 2 teams play a home game on Thursday by choice. And 6 teams play midweek once.

UMass plays Temple on Friday 9/15, but all the other games are on Saturdays.

The one good thing about CUSA's TV deal tanking is better start times.

RE: Examining the Non-Saturday football games in 2017 by conference
I don't mind a couple weeknight games. I drive 2 hours one way to get to AState games. Getting home at 1am or 2 am for a weeknight game isn't very viable and that's what you get with the occasional 8pm start on a weeknight.

I don't know how MAC fans do it, I know how many of them do it, they watch on TV, but it isn't like the MAC is loaded with a lot of urban teams, their alums are often doing a similar drive.

I'm all for the exposure but I really think you need four Saturday home dates for the gate and to preserve the value of premium seating.

The upside of weeknight games, I make them but I rarely use my tickets, I almost always end up with an invite to a suite or loge box which works wonderfully because then I get a meal out of it and can sit and enjoy a decent meal either during warmups or during the game.

The fact that people are giving away their expensive premium seating tickets isn't good for the program.

IOW it tells you who is counting on big gate receipts and who is counting on television to make up for gate receipts

There really isn't any TV money for G5 teams. Basically its about exposure.

Oops. When I said Ga Southern had one Thursday game, it meant Wednesday. http://www.fbschedules.com/2017/03/2017-...announced/

But my larger point stands. Our teams either have 0 non-Saturday games at home, or 1 non-Saturday home games, unless they chose to schedule a game not on Saturday for some reason not related to TV.

Kind of surprised by the schedule too. Only 2 Wednesday games this year.

When the final TV schedule comes out, I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised by the number of ESPN formatted games featuring our teams.

Not till next year. The only compelling matchup at this point on the last weekend is Troy at Ark State.

I'd expect Louisiana Lafayette vs App State to be picked up that weekend. Mountaineers don't face any of the teams that have ever beaten them in conference play this year. Suspect App's going 8-0 and unless one of AState, Troy or USA goes 8-0 they will get anointed on that day as sole champs.

Army is opening on Friday, 9/1, versus Fordham.

Syracuse will be hosting Central Connecticut on Friday, 9/1 and Clemson on Friday, 10/13.

Opening weekend is sort of a non-counter in my book, ever since the Saturday before Labor Day became opening day, the Thursday before has seen quite a few games scheduled, even without TV. Lot of FCS and Division II play that Thursday expecting people to bug out and head to the lake.

In addition to the Friday Big Ten games, aren't they having a Thursday season opener with Ohio State playing Indiana?
