Chicago grandmother guilty in torture death of 8-year-old granddaughter
Quote:CHICAGO – A judge convicted a Chicago woman of first-degree murder Thursday in the strangulation death of her 8-year-old granddaughter, who was tied up and deprived of food and water for days while keeping track of the abuse in a journal later used as evidence.

Helen Ford, 55, could be sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2013 slaying of Gizzell Ford. After the bench trial, Cook County Circuit Judge Evelyn Clay called the murder "exceptionally brutal."

"This murder was torture. That child suffered a slow and agonizing death," Clay said as the victim's aunt sobbed in the packed courtroom. "That little body looked like it had been pulverized from head to toe. ... Her treatment (of Gizzell) was evil."

What is wrong with people who do this to their family. Just had a similar incident in ABQ this past summer.

Quote:Late Wednesday night, Albuquerque police released horrific details of the crime allegedly perpetrated by the girl’s mother, her boyfriend and another woman. APD spokesman Tanner Tixier said the trio injected the 10-year-old with methamphetamine “to make her calm down so they could do whatever they want with her.”

She was sexually assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend and the other woman, and Tixier said the mom showed “no remorse.” They then either stabbed or strangled her to death, Tixier said.

“What happened to this little girl is … horrific. It’s one of the worst things I’ve read in my entire life,” Tixier said, referring to the criminal complaint.
She was also lit on fire as they tried to dispose of her body, they also tried to chop her up.

I say an eye for an eye, grandma should go through the exact thing her granddaughter was until she dies.

I promise you there is a special place in Heaven for children like Gizzell. No words for this...

Quote:In closing arguments earlier Thursday, prosecutors said that even before Gizzy was strangled, she was already dying of kidney failure because her grandmother and father deprived her of water and food for days.

"What happened to Gizzell was an abomination," Assistant State's Attorney Ashley Romito told the judge. "It makes you lose faith in the human race."

Prosecutors said that they believe an open, maggot-infested wound found on the back of Gizzy's head was caused by her head rubbing on a metal pole when she was tied to her father's bed for days. She was kept there as a virtual prisoner after school ended in June until her death less than a month later, prosecutors said.

The wounds to Gizzy's face were so severe that a Chicago police forensic investigator with 30 years on the job wept as she described them in court — a highly unusual display of emotion from a seasoned crime scene professional testifying at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

"I'm sorry, this never happens," Officer Nancy DeCook said as tears streamed down her face after she viewed a photo of the dead child's badly bruised face.
No More Suffering
