2005 Recruiting Master List
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quarterbacks
It should be easy for UM to find the type of player they're looking for. He does not have to have the potential of a Chad Henne, but more so a guy who is willing to wait his turn. There's also a chance the coaches could look at an athletic quarterback along the lines of a Jermaine Gonzales. Look for UM to take one quarterback in this class.

Ryan Perrilloux - 6-3/207/4.5 - Reserve, LA - Sure to be one of the best QB's in the nation he has very good speed to go with a cannon for an arm. The home state LSU Tigers are the slight favorites over Michigan, Florida State, Miami, Texas, and USC.
Evan Sharpley - 6-2/195/4.7 - Marshall, MI - He's the top quarterback in the state and one of the top 5 in-state prospects. He's from the same school as the Van Dyke brothers. He grew up a UM fan. He also likes Purdue and Iowa, whom he has received an offer from.
Jake Christensen - 6-1/195/4.6 - Lockport, IL - One of the top quarterbacks in the midwest. Likes Michigan as well as a bunch of other schools. Early favorites include ND, Purdue, MSU, and Arkansas.
Gene DelleDonne - 6-5/220/4.9 - Wilmington, DE - Possible UM recruit. He's a big, tall quarterback. Receiving interest from UM, OSU, Maryland, BC, Pitt, PSU, and Nebraska. Likes Maryland and ND as well as a few others early.
Bill Stull - 6-1/190/4.7 - Pittsburgh, PA - Possible UM recruit. He's receiving interest from a lot of Big Ten schools, but no offers so far. OSU leads Iowa and Purdue, with Michigan showing some interest as of late. Michigan's chances here are extremely slim but keep on eye on him anyways.

Running Backs
This isn't necessarily a huge priority with Kevin Grady already on board. However, the coaches would definitely take another kid if the opportunity presents itself. I think you will see one or two running backs taken in this class.

Commitment #1 Kevin Grady Jr.- 5-10/220/4.47 - Grand Rapids, MI - Consensus number one player in the state. He rushed for 2,507 yards to go along with 39 touchdowns in 2003. He's the best running back to come out of Michigan in quite some time. He's a 5-star player and committed early. Had offers from UM, MSU, and ND among others. Wants to enroll early at UM.
Jonathan Stewart - 5-10/206/4.59 - Olympia, WA - Possible UM recruit. From the same region as former UM defensive end Larry Stevens. Early leader could be Miami, but that won't stop Michigan and other Pac 10 schools from recruiting him.
Javon Ringer - 5-11/190/4.48 - Dayton, OH - Possible UM recruit. He's hearing from Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Indiana. UM and OSU are his top 2. Iowa has offered.

Wide Receiver
Michigan had a spectacular class in ’04 with wide receiver recruiting and have already got off to a tremendous start in ’05. Look for the Wolverines to take one more WR at most and could possibly be done with just the one already.

Commitment #4 - Mario Manningham – 6-0/170/4.4 – Warren, OH – The Wolverines 4th commitment from the same high school as Carl Diggs and Prescott Burgess. Mario should be the #3 player in the state of Ohio and most likely the #1 WR in the state.
James Gilmore – 6-2/190/4.4 – Columbus, OH – A relatively unknown junior from the state of Ohio that has interest in most Big 10 schools. Michigan and Ohio State will most likely be the top 2 like always and I’m guessing Ohio State would be his favorite?
Mohamed Massaquoi – 6-2/179/4.5 - Charlotte, NC - Mohamed is a very good player drawing early interest from lots of schools. NC State, UNC, and Tennessee have offered with Michigan and Virginia showing interest as well.
Selwyn Lymon – 6-5/190/4.4 – Fort Wayne, IN – Purdue has shown him the most interest and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up a Boilermaker. Michigan and Ohio State are the other two showing him the most interest.
David Harvey – 6-1/175/4.4 – Pittsburgh, PA – From the same school as Penn State ’04 recruit Anthony Morelli, David has picked up interest from many schools around the Midwest. Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt, and Virginia are the schools to watch with Michigan having a very good shot here should they choose to offer (may not in a limited class).
David Grimes – 5-10/160/4.5 – Detroit, MI – Brother of ’04 Spartan commitment Carl Grimes. Most likely would have to wait for a Michigan offer but Michigan and Michigan State are the two he is most interested in right now.
Ryan Allison – 6-3/205/4.48 – Lake Orion, MI – Brother of ’04 Wolverine Roger Allison, Ryan is looking at the Big 10 schools +USC and UCLA. He’s got great size and speed and fared well at the junior Army combine in San Antonio. Michigan would be the smart bet if offered.
Rich Gunnell – 6-1/180/4.5 – Lawrenceville, NJ – Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Iowa, and Florida are all in the top 5 right now but none of the leaders have offered. Rich is going to be a 4-year starter at WR and has the potential to garner lots of scholarship offers.
Patrick Turner – 6-5/210/4.65 – Madison, TN - Patrick is a lock to be one of the top 10 Wide Receivers in the entire nation. Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, and LSU are the 5 schools to note with offers already from Florida and Tennessee.

Offensive Lineman
The team could be set at guard with the previous classes and Justin Schifano already committed. However, look for UM to take two quality tackles in this class.

Commitment #3 Justin Schifano - 6-5/305/5.0 - Webster, NY - He could be New York's top prospect for the class of 2005. Some considered him the best offensive linemen at the 2003 PSU Nike Camp. He wasn't even a junior in high school at the time. He can do 30 bench reps at 185 lbs. He also runs a 4.64 shuttle. Received offers from UM, BC, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Miami.
Dan Doering - 6-6/280/5.1 - Barrington, IL - One of USA Today's top 10 juniors. Likes UM, ND, Wisconsin and Iowa, as well as Tennessee, Northwestern and Illinois. All of the aforementioned schools have offered.
Eugene Monroe 6-7/320/5.3 - Plainfield, NJ - He is one of the top offensive line recruits for the class of 2005. It is uncertain whether he will end up being a UM recruit, but you can be certain he will get recruited from all angles. He has reportedly struck up a friendship with current UM commitment James McKinney.
Alesky Lanis - 6-6/305/5.1 - Los Angeles, CA - Apparently Michigan is recruiting him hard. His top 3 are UM, USC, and UCLA.
Chris Scott - 6-6/305/4.8 - Lovejoy, GA - Consensus number one offensive tackle in the south, and one of the top 5 offensive tackles in the country. He ranks right up there with Dan Doering and Eugene Monroe. His two favorites are UM and FSU. He also likes Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Oklahoma. Georgia and Tennessee have offered.
Rocco Cirroni - 6-7/260/5.0 - Warren, OH - Possible UM recruit. From the same school as former UM linebacker Carl Diggs, current UM linebacker Prescott Burgess, and current commitment Mario Manningham. He currently likes UM and OSU.
Matt Pipho 6-7/250/5.2 - La Porte Cirty, IA - Possible UM recruit. Interested in UM, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Stanford.
A.J. Haas - 6-5/300/-- - Copley, OH - Possible UM recruit. He's one of the top 2 offensive linemen in the state of Ohio. He likes the Big Ten, and there's a good chance he will play his ball in that conference. OSU and PSU are interested.
Dave McClain 6-5/315/5.3 - Doylestown, PA - Possible UM recruit. He has connections to the UM program. Reportedly grew up a Michigan fan. Virginia seems like the early team to beat with Penn State, Maryland, and possibly Michigan all getting involved.
Ahmed Gause 6-4/300/-- - Harper Woods, MI - Possible UM recruit. From the same school as Braylon Edwards, Julius Curry, Darnell Hood, and current UM recruit Antonio Hinton. He is considered a "sleeper recruit." Needs to have a good showing this summer to garner some offers.

Defensive End
Like wide receiver Michigan had a very good class at DE in 2004. Tim Jamison and Chris Rogers were both good players signed by Michigan meaning they will probably only look to take 1-2 at most in this class.

Christian Flemming – 6-5/250/4.7 – Erie, PA – There has been dispute both ways about whether or not he's picked up a Michigan offer yet but his academics are a huge question mark. If he gets the grades up (huge if) then Michigan will likely get involved.
J.B. Paxson – 6-4/255/4.8 – Greenwood, IN – From the same school as Wolverine punter Adam Finley, J.B. Paxson is a very good prospect from the DE position. Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan, and Ohio State seem to be the four most likely to get his signature in February 2005.
Terrance Jamison – 6-4/225/- - Harvey, IL – Brother of ’04 Wolverine signee Tim Jamison, Terrance doesn’t expect to fly under the radar after his brothers’ outstanding Army All-American game performance. Jamison will probably stay in the Midwest with Iowa, ND, and Wisconsin involved already with Michigan sure to get involved soon.
Antonio Hinton – 6-5/265/4.6 – Detroit, MI – One of the most talented players in the state of Michigan Antonio hails from the same school as current Wolverines Darnell Hood and Markus Curry. Grades could be an issue but Michigan should be tough to beat if they offer.
Neal Jones – 6-4/235/4.7 – Orlando, FL – A very quick DE from down south Neal has picked up lots of interest from the main 3 Florida schools along with Michigan and Ohio State. The two Midwestern schools do have a chance though because Neal was born in Cleveland and has the family ties in the Midwest.

Defensive Tackle
Defensive tackle is a position Michigan recruited hard in 2004. Alan Branch and Marquis Walton were both added to the depth chart, which means you could see a class of 2 DT’s at the most.

Terrance Taylor – 6-1/277/4.9 – Muskegon, MI – The #2 player in the state of Michigan, Terrance Taylor looks to be the top DT in the Midwest. Listed as one of the top 10 juniors to watch in USA Today he is looking at Michigan, Ohio State, and a slew of other national powerhouses. Michigan is known as the team to beat.
Walker Ashley – 6-5/289/4.9 – Eden Prairie, MN – Although he has no offers yet you can bet he’ll pick up many from around the Big 10. Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Minnesota, and Penn State have all been in contact early.
Mataele Pau’u – 6-3/298/4.97 – Manhatten Beach, CA – Six offers have poured in already for this monstrous DT from the west coast. Michigan, Oregon, USC, Arizona, and Arizona State are the top 5 for Pau’u.
Vince Oghobaase – 6-5.5/300/5.2 – Alief, TX – A big time DT from the Lone Star State, Vince has all the tools to be a star. He’s got early offers from Houston and LSU with Michigan, Miami, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M all also being involved.
Ekom Udofia – 6-2/290/4.8 – Scottsdale, AZ – Ekom will be one of the top DT’s on the west coast and is picking up lots of early interest. Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, and USC have all offered already with all of them being leaders.

Linebackers
Michigan has a definite need for linebackers in the upcoming class, and it looks as if they will be in pretty good shape. There are two in-state prospects that could garner some UM interest, as well as many big-time national names. Look for UM to take as many as three linebackers in this class.

Travis Beckum - 6-5/220/4.5 - Oak Creek, WI - Has interest in UM, but also likes Miami and Florida State. PSU, USC, and Georgia are also in the mix. Wisconsin has offered.
Brian Cushing - 6-3/225/4.5 - Oradell, NJ - Has strong interest in UM as well as Stanford. Offers from Stanford, BC, Rutgers, and Syracuse.
Andrew Hawken - 6-2/220/4.7 - Grandville, MI - One of the top 2 linebackers in the state and a consensus top 7 in-state prospect. Strong UM interest and wants to stay in the Big Ten. Purdue has offered.
Chris Jeske - 6-2/215/4.6 - Joliet, IL - From the same school as cuurent Wolverine Mike Kolodziej. One of the top linebackers in the midwest. Likes UM as well as Illinois, Northwestern and Wisconsin. NW and UW have offered.
Nick Lawrence - 6-2/215/4.7 - Brighton, MI - One of the top 2 linebackers in the state. Likes UM. Other Big Ten and MAC schools are interested.
Brandon Logan - 6-1/195/4.5 - Lexington, KY - Strong interest in UM and Kentucky. Also likes Florida, Georgia, Wake Forest, and Texas A&M. UM and Kentucky have offered. Friends with current UM commit James McKinney.
Ray Maualuga - 6-2/235/4.5 - Eureka, CA - Garnered interest from many national schools after impressive showing at U.S. Army combine. Schools interested include UM, Arizona, Cal, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, UV, and Washington.
Rico McCoy - 6-2/210/4.5 - Washington D.C. - Schools interested are UM, BC, Florida, Maryland, Miami, OSU, PSU, and Syracuse.
Ryan Reynolds - 6-2/220/4.6 - Las Vegas, NV - Interest in UM as well as Oklahoma (possible leader), Tennessee, and others. Oklahoma, Michigan, Wisconsin, Stanford, and Oklahoma State have all offered.
Ernest Williams - 6-2/248/4.6 - Monessen, PA - He's interested in UM and Pitt among others. He's hearing from every major school in the country. He's an absolute physical specimen. Benches 340 and squats 690! Earnest will the #2 player in the state of PA.

Corner Backs
Corner back is one major position of need for Michigan in this class. Besides linebacker this has been where we have whiffed the biggest over the past two classes (Hiley, Whitner, Ginn, Oliver, Cromartie). Look for 2-3 standout CB’s in this class.

Justin King – 6-0.5/190/4.29 – Monroeville, PA – Most likely the most important recruit on the board for this season. Justin has all the tools to be a superstar at the next level and will be a 5* player at the biggest position of need. Justin’s stepfather is Terry Smith, a former WR under Joe Paterno at Penn State. Penn State looks like the smart bet right now but Michigan, Ohio State, and Pitt are right on their heels.
Talonnie Russell – 5-11/175/4.4 – Detroit, MI – Talonnie is the best player in the state at a position of need for the Wolverines. Lots of speculation going around about how interest the Wolverines are but look for the Buckeyes, Wolverines, and Spartans all to get involved in his recruitment.
Brandon Harrison – 5-10/200/4.35 – Dayton, OH – The top CB in a talent rich state, Brandon Harrison looks to have his choice of schools. Michigan and Iowa have both offered but like always with an Ohio player you can bet OSU will be tough to beat.
Keith Fitzhugh – 5-11/180/4.45 – Lovejoy, GA – One of the top CB prospects out of the south Keith grew up a fan of the Gators but they aren’t in his early top 5. Michigan, Georgia, Florida State, Mississippi State, and Auburn are his 5 schools of interest right now.
Jamie Robinson – 6-3/175/4.5 – Rock Hill, SC – A big CB that would fit perfectly into the Ron English mold, Jamie is a player that Michigan has shown early interest in. Clemson, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virginia are the ones showing the most interest.

Safety
Safety is the part of the secondary Michigan has recruited well over the past few years. Mundy, Adams, and Cheatham have all come in the last few classes and the Wolverines will probably only add one in this class.

Adam Meyers-White – 6-3/185/4.5 – Hamilton, OH - Another good secondary player out of Ohio, Meyers-White has already collected offers from Michigan and Ohio State. OSU looks very tough to beat but you never know with all the secondary players collected by OSU over the past few seasons.
Sean Lee – 6-3/200/4.6 – Pittsburgh, PA – Another in a long line of Michigan PA recruits Lee is being sought after by many programs with Michigan being the biggest right now. Michigan probably won’t take more then 1 safety in this class so look for him to try and improve his 40 time with speed training to pick up a Wolverine offer. Sean will most likely have to wait and has a way to go before getting an offer.

Athlete
Players listed under athletes’ are players that can play either way as a WR or as a DB. They will most likely be recruited for defense unless they specifically point out they want to play on offense due to the need’s at CB right now.

Derrick Williams – 5-11.5/185/4.41 – Greenbelt, MD – One of the top 10 athlete’s in the country, Derrick Williams has gained the interest of every major program in the nation. He has an early interest in the Wolverines but hasn’t set a definitive top 5 yet.
Donald Washington – 6-2/180/4.4 – Indianapolis, IN – Donald has picked up interest from Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, Florida, and Florida State already in his recruitment but none of his leaders are yet to offer. Donald is the defending state long jump champion and has a vertical leap of 38 inches.
Michael Ray Garvin – 5-8/175/4.35 – Ramsey, NJ – From the same school as ’04 standout Brian Toal. Michael has interest in the Wolverines early but size could be something that holds back an offer. Michigan, Miami, Nebraska, Boston College, and Oklahoma are the 5 I’d watch for.
James McDonald – 6-3/195/4.57 – Washington DC – Maryland and Pitt are the early favorites but look for Michigan to shoot up in his list if they choose to offer. He currently claims offers from Pitt, UCLA, and Syracuse. Miami is also being listed as an early school of interest.
Mark Woodson – 5-11/175/4.4 – Shaker Heights, OH – An Ohio State camper the last two seasons he seems to be most interest in Ohio State. Michigan is very likely to pursue him due to needs at CB so we will have to see how his recruitment goes.
Antonio Bass - 6-1/190/4.4 - Jackson, MI - A very good athlete that plays QB for his high school Antonio has garned early interest from many schools. Look for Michigan to get involved early and make a very strong push for him.

Kicker/Punter
Punter is one position that absolutely has to be addressed in this class. Adam Finley is using up his last season of eligibility, which means that you can bet the coaching staff will be looking for someone to boom the pigskin for the ’05 team.

Rick Albreski – 6-1/170/- - Addison, IL – Michigan and Oklahoma are the two big programs showing early interest in this Illinois kicker. Oklahoma sounds like the team to beat but the Wolverines are likely to pursue him hard due to their major need at punter.
Brett Nagan – 6-3/190/- - Kaukauna – WI – A kicker/Punter combo from the state of Wisconsin Brett fits a major position need for Michigan. The Wolverines and the Badgers have shown the earliest interest.
