CBI gets high major schools every year. But we will see about Vegas 16.

High majors in the 8 CBIs:

Oregon State
Pittsburgh
Oregon
Washington State
Stanford
Virginia
Purdue
Texas A&M
Penn State
Virginia
Colorado
Texas
Cincinnati (even though I say AAC is high major now, went while member of Big East)
Washington

LopesUp, 2016 was the first time in the CBIs history they didnt have at least one high major participant. I dont think one year warrants saying theres a "consensus" P5 schools "have no interest" in playing in the CBI.

Nevada is on the rise though. They have Elijah Foster who was hurt most of this year but chose Nevada over SU on his signing day. We really could have uses him from Beach with how thin out post depth is

I'm guessing it was TJ Benson there watching CSI? I've been waiting for GCU to offer Jonathan Nwankwo since before CSI's season started!

I'm not saying just cbi. It just seems these power 5 conference teams look down on these pay to play tournaments. If it's not the ncaa or nit than what's the point. Once gcu is eligible next season, I hope they never play in one of these other tournaments. It's ncaa/nit or bust.

Until GCU makes a NCAA tournament I think the Lopes should go to whatever lower tier option invites them. That being said this year I'd put money on the Lopes beating ASU and would love it if they matched up in a post season tournament.

I wish Foster were hurt this year. He got busted for domestic violence in November. Charges were dismissed but Muss never let him play again. I don't think he was officially kicked off the team. I don't know what's going on but it hurt our bench this year.

I agree- the Lopes should play wherever possible. Try to get to the championship game and get some national pub like Nevada got last year with the CBI. I mean it wasn't CBS or anything but the bball junkies like us noticed.

Haven't see UMKC mentioned, but I think they'll get an invite somewhere. They finished the season strong and they're currently above .500. If UVU gets an invite too, that'd be 5/8 tournament teams assuming they all accept.

Congrats on win vs. Bakersfield. The margin of error for winning the WAC was so small between NMSU/CSUB/GCU this year, but it was NMSU's to lose and we did. There is no way ASU would agree to play in one of the lower tourney's if they were to play GCU. GCU will play in whatever tourney that invites them. They can afford it and will do it. They deserve it. They had a fantastic year. The NCAA 4 year probation period is absurd and should be playing in the WAC tourney this year. Anyway, good luck Lopes in the CIT or CBI or whatever. See u in Vegas or wherever they have the tourney next year (I'm hoping in Phoenix at GCU arena). Anyway, laters.

What's the point of the probation period anyway? Were they having problems with so many D2 schools moving up and kicking butt? If the team is good enough to make the NCAAs then they should get to play. All it does is put that team farther behind their conference peers, unless the NCAA wants the newbies to start with as much of a disadvantage as possible?

It is mainly compliance stuff that they have to do during the four years, so I think the logic behind it is that they don't want a program moving up, breaking the rules, and then acting like they didn't know they were doing something wrong. And that is me stretching play devil's advocate. Plus, I think GCU was the only program to have a winning record (again) of the group of four that moved up for the 2013-2014 season.

I think that the WAC does have the ability to say that GCU can play in the conference tourney, then if GCU made it to the finals, the other team would go on to the tourney no matter what.

The WAC should have allowed GCU to play in the WAC Tournament this season.

But I also think we need to start rotating the WAC Tournament between Phoenix and Las Cruces.

Why? Whats wrong with Vegas? If it is played in PHX or LC it should just be played at the regular season champs home court

The idea of giving anyone home court advantage for a tourney is dumb.

Agreed. Don't see anything wrong with Vegas

It's embarrassing to see 1,000 fans in attendance for the WAC Championship game on ESPN. in 2007, we had 11,948 for the WAC Championship game. The only two places that can sell out the arena are GCU and NMSU. Unless Seattle, and the rest of the conference can bring 1,000 fans to the tournament, it needs to rotate between NMSU and GCU.

I feel like we've talked about the problems with WACt in Phoenix before. The biggest one being that Spring Training is just getting up and going here. Good luck finding hotels, rental cars, tee times, dining options, etc. at a reasonable rate, if at all.

The 2007 WAC Tournament in Las Cruces was a success. It was actually the biggest attend tournament since 1998.
