There is a great article in the "Coastal Virginia" magazine this month on Khalid Abdullah. Check it out!

tried to find this...no luck, do you have a link?

also...how is Khalid NOT on this list?

http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.asp?i=...1643989804

his 40 times (4.67, 4.76, 4.86) are not that wildly different than last year's combine - though his range is wide

He was tough, could break through the line and shift past the LBs. He did seem to get caught a few times from behind though- almost like he ran out of gas. Probably why we got him in the first place. I'd take Khalid on a JMU team any day of the week though.

How aren't any of our seniors on that list?

Something Khalid does better than most college football running backs as well as a lot of pro's, he keeps his wheels turning at all times. Its like watching a dragster doing a burnout.

Just curious, where did you find his 40 yard dash times? Is it recent data?

totally agree on the wheels...and footwork in general, it's light years beyond most college players. there is a clip that every NFL scout needs to see from this year - he jumps, turns his hips square, and feet are still churning before he hits the ground again. you just don't see that.

40 times...no clue how recent
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsp...&genpos=RB

is it time for a JMU social campaign?

Pro Day is next Wednesday, Mar. 15, at 4pm (IIRC). Khalid and others will have their chance to make their impression.

(as a Skins fan, I'm hoping we either draft KA or get him via UDFA...we need running back depth)

They need to have a dude hanging on to the back of their jersey while they run 15 yards and Khalid would stand out.

RE: Abdullah
Reminds me of about a decade ago a fellow Skins fan told me the Combine was useless for the Skins to evaluate WR's because the passes from the machines were always on target. He advised the Skins needed to evaluate WR's with passes overthrown, thrown into the ground, and thrown 5 yards to the sides of where the WR is supposed to be.

Can't recall who our QB was at the time.

RE: Abdullah
BE WARNED! MATH BELOW!!

If we look at speed score (which factors in weight and 40 yard dash to build a composite score) of players who participated in the combine between 2012-17, Khalid does have a shot to be drafted, but it will depend on his 40 time, and how much quicker he can get before next Wednesday's pro day. Assuming that he maintains his listed weight at 220, we can then factor in different 40-times to build his speed score. Using his average time (4.76 based on the above measurements provided by BCP), his speed score is 85.71, which is not great, but players have been drafted with lower scores, most notably Theo Riddick, Stepfan Taylor, and Kenny Hilliard.

If he can get it down to 4.65 (a touch below his fastest time), his speed score is now 94.11, which firmly plants him between two players who were drafted - Kenjon Barner and Marcus Lattimore. Notably, he is above James White, Devonta Freeman, and De'Anthony Taylor, and below Alfred Morris and Gio Bernard.

Let's say he can get even lower. At a 40 yard speed of 4.6, his speed score is 98.27, similar to Lache Seastrunk, Alfred Blue, and Paul Perkins. He is a point and a half below Samaje Perine and James Connor.

Lifelong Deadskins fan, but am beginning to wonder why. They're a train wreck now more than ever, what a joke.

You mean more now than the previous 20 years under Danny Boy? Nothing new. McLaughlin the Boozer. I will die a Skins fan even through all the underachievement and mismanagement. I'd love to see Khalid with the Skins, but OTOH a side of me doesn't want him to have to be exposed to such continual dysfunction (tough to say and admit).

Anyone who wants Abdullah to succeed should hope & pray he avoids the Redskins. That whole organization is toxic.

I think Abdullah would be a great asset on the Cowboys, 25% to rile Skins fans and 75% because I think he would be a great change of pace back with Zeke. Certainly he would run better than Morris did last year.

40 times in shorts and t shirt shouldn't mean much but unfortunately to many they still do. There are many speedsters that don't amount to squat in the NFL. From what I've seen in the admittedly few games I have watched of JMU this year he is a talent. He seems to read the hole well, hit it quickly and run downhill, not dance around. He did to the Bison what very few backs have done over the last 6 years and most all of them now play in the NFL.

RE: Abdullah
I will say about KA what I said when I first watched him when he was a freshman. He breaks tackles better than any other JMU back I've seen (and most FCS players I've seen..the only comparable ones have had their time in the NFL). Even our better previous backs (especially the speedier ones) started to fall either before they even got hit or as soon as the hit was made. They'd just stop their feet and drop. KA keeps driving, spins, jukes...whatever...but keeps moving forward. It's something that's nearly impossible to teach and he came in with it. He's gotten better and stronger since he got here. He's a team player, a great story, and secures the ball well. If he can show just a little extra speed at pro day, I think he'll get a chance. As much as I loved Banks and Fenner from my freshman year...and all the backs in between...KA is my favorite JMU back. He just doesn't quit.

Not that I disagree at all, because everything stated is spot on, but you have a very small window of horses which have donned the Purple and Gold. All JMU running backs have a standard in which they must be compared, and that is Warren Marshall. I am hoping Marcus will give us something close to his dad, if so, we all will be headed back to TX in January, 2018. In all seriousness, Warren was a special player for JMU, though he had no where near the surrounding cast of teammates that Khalid had this past season.

Warren Marshall > Curtis Keaton > Khalid Abdullah > Delvin Joyce > Rodney Landers* > Dae'Quan Scott > Kenny Sims > Alvin Banks/Maurice Fenner > Vad Lee* > Eugene Holloman

Marshall, Keaton, and Joyce all got chances in NFL and all are JMU HOFers. Good company at the top.

Hard to argue w/ your alignment DJ, and I think your picks are spot on. I might flip flop Holloman & Scott though. Always thought Eugene Holloman was underrated.
