It was a comedy of errors. The foul was a joke. They seemed to be guessing both times they reset the game clock. People blaming the timekeeper, but don't the refs start and stop the clock in the last minute?

I'm fairly certain they don't.
Clock didn't start, Miners got a full second of free game, refs fixed that error. Sucks.

UAB and Marshall are now the likely 6 and 7 seeds (assuming both teams win Saturday and I think UAB will be the 6 seed over Marshall.
8-10 is up in the air a bit still but will be WKU, Charlotte and UTSA in some order or another.
And then 11-12 is probably FAU and USM in that order. USM will need a win for sure to not be the 12 seed.
If UAB and Marshall both finish at 10-8 UAB has the tie breaker? Head to head they are tied.

Does it really matter who didn't start the clock? They're correcting an error. You can't catch the ball, run two steps and shoot with 0 seconds ticking off the clock.

They will tie head to head. No. 2 tiebreaker is record against the top teams in the standings. Both lost twice to Middle. UAB has a win over La Tech, Marshall does not. Thus UAB wins the tiebreaker.

Did the fans throw bottles on the court?
Nope.
I guess you can say we have a few thrashy fans. ESPN has mentioned this game on air.
ODU vs. UTEP is getting to be quite the long distance rivalry. The four games have been split with the Miners winning the first two by 15 and 14, and ODU winning last season by 21. Now this. There is no doubt in my mind that both schools have among the top fan bases for mbb in CUSA. I respect and appreciate you Miners!

Much respect to the UTEP team. They have a nice combination of size and talent, and are playing well at this time of the year. They also seem to me to be well coached in spite of what I was reading earlier in the season. Assuming they beat Charlotte on Saturday to secure a top 4 spot, it would not surprise me at all to see them make it to the Conference Championship game next weekend.
As for the supposed controversy about the final tip at the buzzer ...
1) How on earth can ODU (with just 3 seconds left in the game) inbound the ball under their own basket to Talley coming off a screen at the elbow,
2) Have him catch the ball,
3) Have him take a half step back,
4) Have him elevate and shoot a jump shot,
5) Have him get fouled as he is coming down by the defender's momentum carrying him into Talley knocking him off balance and to the floor,
6) Have him hit 2 foul shots (which is with the clock not running)
7) Have UTEP inbound the ball the length of the court,
8) Have Talley/Wilms knock the ball out of bounds (all with Coach Floyd at least 2 feet out onto the court right near the play. If Talley had knocked the ball off of him and it then went out of bounds would it have been ODU's ball? A technical foul on Coach Floyd? Shouldn't it have been a technical foul regardless?),
9) Have Harris(?) catch the inbounds pass for UTEP,
10) Have Harris(?) dribble a couple of times to his right,
11) Have Harris(?) elevate and shoot a jump shot,
12) And ... Have Wilms tap in the missed shot as the horn sounds,
AND SUPPOSEDLY DO ALL OF THAT WITHIN 3 SECONDS OF GAME CLOCK???
The simple and correct answer is that it didn't happen. If you go back and check the clock the same thing (late clock start) happened when Talley went up to shoot (1-5 above). That entire event only took 1/2 of a second according to the time keeper. In reality it took longer than that. He/she did not start the clock till well after Talley had caught the ball. Had ODU taken a few more dribbles and made a shot just as the horn sounded, they very well could have had the tables turned on them apparently winning for the same reason (time clock startup error). The exact same thing happened with UTEP when they were attempting their last shot.
Bottom line is that those two events were drawn out to be significantly longer than they should have been when we are talking about tenths of seconds being a difference between a win or a loss for either team.
In defense of UTEP, if clock management had been better and they had just 1 second (for example) to get off that last shot instead of 2.1, they surely would have done something different with the play, and may have actually made a winning shot that would have counted. Will be pulling for you guys to win Saturday and secure a Top 4 seed.

The UTEP-ODU was great. It sucked that UTEP loss but the officials made the right call at the end. THE CLOCK DIDN'T START ON TIME. The thing that really pissed me off was the fact the UTEP student section threw all kinds of stuff at the ODU players. There is NEVER a reason for that. I have never been more embarrassed as a UTEP alum than I was after the correct call was made. I may take the trash throwing a little more personal since my daughter is a college athlete and I would never want her subjected to that. Great game ODU and good luck in the tournament. I hope we play you again.

Thanks for the classy and accurate comments about that situation stanman505.
Unfortunately, society today thinks that doing stuff like that is cool, or OK. I can totally understand the disappointment and frustration with the outcome, especially without seeing and understanding why the last tip-in should not have counted even though it appeared to be right before the horn.
All of that said, there was not any reason at all to throw objects at the ODU players. It was a cleanly played game by both teams, and the ODU team was standing there patiently waiting to see what the officials were going to determine after looking at the review monitors. They did nothing all game long to warrant being the object of the fan's frustration other than get the win. I'm just glad that the ODU players and coaches did not respond and were directed quickly back to the locker room. From the TV feed it appeared that they were about to respond and I am thankful that they did not.
Congrats to ODU on gaining the 3 seed. Controversial endings are always going to be seen clearly by the 2 opposing factions as horrible or great, depending on which side you're on. It's over and now on to the next game. UTEP needs a win vs Charlotte or a Rice loss at WKU to gain the 4 seed and 1st round bye so there is that to get excited about.
Damn good college basketball game and atmosphere last night in El Paso.

Rice is getting excited about the opportunity to avenge our only loss since January 26 if UTEP and Rice meet in the 4 Seed versus 5-12 Seeds winner match.
