Saturday Tourney Matchups
Citadel (had lost to WCU X 2, but Cats could not score down the stretch last night)
Vs.
UNCG – (has beaten Citadel X 2; but so had WCU. Face it, though: Citadel matches up poorly, especially against that big UNCG front court of White, Dickey, Kuiper and Galloway. And UNCG, unlike the pitifully offensively challenged Western, can score when it counts.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Wofford (Chatt has beat Wofford x 2; but not without Pryor, and not since the McLean/McCall dumpster fire started. If Garcia and McGee are clicking from 3, it will get ugly. But if the Terriers do like Belmont vs Jacksonville State and shoot 28% from 3, the Mocs will move on.)
Vs.
Chattanooga (lot of demons to exorcize; a last chance for the talented Senior class to prevent this season from being something other than a disastrous bitter memory that they will carry for the rest of their lives. I can see it in the A.D.’s office 10 years from now: “Hey guys, there’s a big game coming up for the Mocs – let’s celebrate by scheduling a reunion of the 2017 team!” Yeah.)
BTW – both Chatt and Wofford are 1-1 versus UNCG. Wofford’s in better position to give them a run.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Furman (have beaten Samford x2 . They show a toughness and resilience making them the “stoiky muzhiks” of the SoCon, to borrow a Russian phrase from “Bridge of Spies” – meaning roughly a real Russian man of the soil, a resilient man, the guy who gets back up when knocked down).
Vs.
Samford (they don’t go away either. Both teams can shoot – the 1st and 2nd in 3 point percentage and 2nd and 3rd in field goal percentage behind the the Bucs. In previous meetings Furman has defended better.)
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
ETSU – (beat Mercer X 2; the danger is you may take someone lightly when you’ve beaten them twice. See WCU vs Citadel above)
Vs
Mercer – (excellent defense and rebounding with a slow tempo, but trouble scoring beyond Rian Holland and Jordan Strawberry. ETSU has been a pretty good match for their defense and rebounding, turning the tempo up with an edge in steals and turnovers, and far better at scoring. The Bucs had better be ready to do it again tonight. Bob Hoffman will have something cooked up. Of course he doesn’t have Murry to kick around anymore.)

Minor correction: As I noted in the "Mid-Major Poll" thread, Belmont shot only 21% from 3-land last night. But of course your point is valid. I for one am not assuming the Mocs will lay down and roll over AT ALL. They still have all those seniors, and there's just bound to be some pride still intact. ....Isn't there??
