It's quite a jump from the 1,700 seat Van Dyne Gym to the 5,200 seat CBU Event Center ($73m to build). But moving up will up the profile and the attendance. And I think it's going to be a hit. I think all WAC fans will look forward to the triangle of rivalry between CBU, GCU, and CSUB. This will help all three. Naysayers I think are going to be wrong on this one. The Lancers will compete head up almost from day one.

Sorry, I suffered (another) momentary relapse of immaturity.
I think its out of my system now. Carry on.

I think it's going to take them a lot longer to be competitive. Maybe even 3 years in. The conference is only getting stronger. Everyone is getting better recruits than they were 2-3 years ago. CBU has to start from scratch.

I think Cal Baptist is a good pick up. I think they can have success on the court immediately but I will be surprised if they achieve the same amount of fan interest GCU has garnered. Nevertheless, they will add to a strong nucleus of western schools... Cal State Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, Seattle U. and now Cal Baptist.

Their location is definitely a plus.

2 1/2 hours to Bakersfield
4 1/2 hours to GCU

Immediately becomes closest league team for both GCU and CSU-B

CBU is going through a growth spurt. Enrollment in 2009 was 4,105 and in 2016 it was 9,157. With the new arena and new engineering building, I would expect more growth. About 40% of the student body lives on campus. I think the new arena coupled with a D1 schedule will increase attendance significantly. CBU already gets good coverage in the Riverside Press Enterprise.

GCU and CBU are old rivals, on and off the field. GCU runs TV commercials in Southern California. About 25% of Grand Canyon's on-campus enrollment is from California, many of those Southern California. Majerle has offers to seven players for the class of 2018, three from Southern California. Add CSUB to that mix and you can see where this could go. I would also expect Seattle, UVU and NMSU will increase their recruiting efforts in California. About 25% of Seattle's student body is from California.

The addition of CBU will pull this conference more to the west. It gets the WAC back in the LA market. There is too much talent out here to not have more of a presence in California. How does Damian Lillard end up at Weber State? Paul George at Fresno State? Kawhi Leonard at San Diego State? The talent gets missed by power conferences. Hopefully the WAC can start finding more of this talent.

On the BW Boards, UCR was hearing it from a few posters basically telling them they were losing the battle for Riverside / IE with regards to CBU moving up, facilities, etc.

Currently mobile....but not necessarily upwardly.
