The Shox win the MVC All-Sports trophy about as often as we win in basketball.
Tennis, volleyball, and track are strong. Baseball has great facilities and a great history, but is down right now. Previous AD probably made a bad hire there.
Baseball should come back. We've got a stadium that seats 6,000 or so and casual (lawn chairs, BBQ, etc) seating on a hill past right field. Also have an indoor practice facility. The facilities are top notch.
Women's BB has been to a couple of NCAA tourneys recently, but the coach who did that has been relieved of duties (apparently "with cause") and we're in a transition period there.
Volleyball is an NCAA tourney regular lately Draws well, too. Average attendance last year was 2,300.
It would take $40 million to start up football. If it had to happen, that money could probably be found, but it's doubtful a startup program would have any value to a conference.
Eck Field is a great place to catch a game.

Wichita State , Dayton , VCU being discussed for bball?

Where do you see that they have soccer? On their website I count 13 sports which is a little light.
You're right, they don't.... I had seen both Dayton and VCU did and wasn't remembering correctly.

I think the AAC should go in with Wichita State, Dayton and surprise St. Louis.
Move to divisional play for all sports.
West: Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Wichita, Tulane, Memphis, St. Louis
East: Cincinnati, Dayton, UConn, Temple, ECU, USF, USF
This would cut down on travel costs. Basketball members wouldn't get a big part of the TV deal but would add competitive value.
Creates a lot of air tight rivalries.
Elevates the AAC much further past the A10 and MVC. Both become much more regional without their western members.

The problem with St. Louis is that Rick Majerus left. And he ain't coming back.

I very much want Wichita as an olympic sports member, but not in football until they can regularly draw 30k and go to bowl games. We can't afford to weaken the football side of the conference.

Travis Ford is going to take SLU beyond Majerus. His next couple classes will be top 25, maybe top 15. Seriously kicking ass while Mizzou and Illini are down.

I do believe that women's soccer can and will be added at some point. I think we just want to figure out where we're going to be before we do anything about adding sports.

RE: Wichita State , Dayton , VCU being discussed for bball?
The problem with Saint Louis is that once they are good again they'd be a prime target for the Big East. I guess the same could be said for Dayton, although they aren't down in the dumps so I guess if the BE wanted them they'd already be there.
Wichita and VCU don't fit the Big East profile and would be in the AAC indefinitely.
I do get the feeling from Aresco's recent comments that we're looking at only 1 non-football member though, and I don't think we could go wrong with either Wichita or VCU.

I am starting to come around to the idea of adding all 3 and creating travel partners.
