Toledo, Ohio - The University of Toledo released its 2017 football schedule today and a minimum of five games will on national TV. Among the Rockets' six home games next season are a pair of key MAC West Division battles in November, as well as a tough non-conference battle with Tulsa of the American Athletic Conference on Sept. 16.

Toledo will host three Mid-American Conference opponents from the West Division, as well as Akron from the East Division. The West Division foes include Eastern Michigan, which will be the Homecoming opponent on Oct. 7, along with mid-week clashes against Northern Illinois (Thursday, Nov. 2) and Western Michigan (Friday, Nov. 24).

In addition to Tulsa, Toledo's other non-conference home game is the season opener vs. Elon on Thursday, Aug. 31. Tulsa was 10-3, 6-2 in the AAC in 2016, and defeated Central Michigan 55-10 in the Miami Beach Bowl. The Golden Hurricane won six of its last seven games, its only loss a 42-40 setback at Navy on Nov. 12. The non-conference road games are at Nevada on Sept. 9 and at Miami (FL) on Sept. 23. Miami, which was 9-4, 5-3 in the ACC last season, will make the return trip to Toledo in 2018.

Five games on the schedule will be carried on ESPN2, ESPNU or the CBS Sports Network, with more games likely to be added later to the television docket. The three road games on national TV are at Ball State (Oct. 26), at Ohio (Nov. 8) and at Bowling Green (Nov. 15). The two home games on national TV are vs. Northern Illinois (Nov. 2) and Western Michigan (Nov. 24).

I made it to 13 games in 2016 and it looks like 2017 I'll only be able to do eight—in the regular season, anyway. The schedule sucks.

There is not a single MAC game being played on a Saturday in November.

If you're going to schedule a Thursday game 5 days after your last one, at least make it a home game. Thanks MAC and ESPN

We'll last year we crapped the bed when we were at home and Ohio cane on a short rest. Maybe this year we'll actually play offense on our Thursday game.

Love the home schedule. Nice spacing. Only one November weekday game. Road schedule is tough with 2 flight games and 3 weekday games...but oh well, it's the road schedule.

If you can make all of the home games and the 2 easy road trips, that's good. If you can make more, that's great. I don't have much to complain about here. Just wish OU was on a weekend. And I always root for a road game on black Friday since it's easy to travel and attendance sticks that day.

Why do we have Elon on the schedule? Do they have any history of football or with us? Other than that, the teams on the schedule seem solid.

They've been playing since 1909 when they went 4-1, knocking off a tough Durham YMCA 6-0 in their final game. They have seven QBs on their roster and about the same number of wins since 2013. And they have a 5'6", 140 pounder on the roster. Which only answers the "Do they have any history of football" question and leaves me scratching my head as to why they were scheduled. Usually our lower division competition has been ranked in their division in recent years.

Just think of Elon as being our equivalent of "Arkansas's Toledo" in 2015 (hopefully without the upset)----for every 2 for 1 or every one and done a G5 schedules with the BIG BOYS a home game with an "Elon" is the price you must pay to have a full home schedule. Just be glad UT is playing Elon in football next year and not in MBB this year.

I thought Elon was a boy band.

Well, other than the obvious for all the weeknight games, it's a pretty good schedule. I don't care so much for opening the season on a Thursday with Elon. OTOH, a Thursday game gives the team a couple extra days to prep for the Nevada trip. November will be a tough month. Hopefully we can stay unbeaten in the MAC until then.
