How can a league be so clueless as to how this TV deal has negatively affected every single member of the MAC?
Trade ya. Have our 2, we'll gladly double our 2 Sat home games...

Think he's including road Saturday games. How many home Saturday games does Toledo have?
3- Tulsa, EMU, and Akron.
Same with cmu -wmu, last year at cmu it was a sold out crowd, great atmosphere, this year it is on a wed night.

Here's a comment from our AD. Heh, she can barely hide her contempt.
“The television games have been chosen by ESPN,” Western Michigan athletic director Kathy Beauregard said. “We have agreed as a league to play those games that are assigned to us by ESPN. Is it our best, ideal situation? No. But we will make it exactly what it needs to be.”

I wish our AD had some contempt to hide. He's probably still too busy working on the G5 playoff.

So what she is saying is what we have all suspected ... ESPN MAKES THE SCHEDULES ... if the MAC made the schedules (hopefully) there would be a bit more respect for rivalries and such and when they are played.
ESPN DOES NOT CARE ABOUT FANS IN THE STANDS ... that is obvious, and has been for years.
Midweek games were a nice novelty at the beginning ... as a staple, not so much.

Miami:
@ Marshall
vs Austin Peay
vs UC (homecoming)
@ CMU
@ Notre Dame
vs BG (family weekend)
@ Kent St
vs UB
@ OU (Tuesday)
vs Akron (Tuesday)
vs EMU (Wednesday)
@ Ball St (Tuesday)
The OU game is on Halloween night, that should be, uh, interesting to say the least. But who's bright idea was it to give us zero Saturday games the last quarter of the season? I don't have much of a problem with weeknight games, but anything more than two for one team is getting pretty excessive imo, unless they're getting on ESPNU at the very least.
If the Miami team that showed up the last half of the season comes to play this September, we could be very dangerous given how we avoid WMU and Toledo from the West. Given how many returning players we have, we could have something special in store.

But...how? The streets of Athens will be flooded with a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd for their annual Halloween celebration. Hopefully OU is doing some diligent planning.

Up next, the Final Four coming to Oxford later this month on Green Beer Day. Followed by a Super Bowl in New Orleans on Mardi Gras next year.

TV? So many of these games end up on ESPN3.com. The MAC should have stipulated to ESPN that all week day games must be on ESPN or ESPN2. Otherwise we could have easily played Saturday games and still been on ESPN3.com.

Yea I was being quite generous there - even that part has degraded, instead of being on ESPN2 we're stuck on ESPNU or ESPN3.

It's only a matter of time until we are FCS boys. ESPN will continue to gut our fanbases to the point of where they will be backing out of the tv deal due to us going FCS from attendance requirement across the board. The writing is on the walls.

not this year. Halloween is on a Tuesday so the uptown celebration will probably be on October 28 which is a Saturday. no conflict with the game.

RE: any hints on the exciting MAC news coming today
And to think, I get aggravated when Dear Leader and ESPN force us to play a Wednesday and a Thursday home game. I can't imagine a schedule with two Saturday home games like NIU has.
I mean, how does anyone build a fan base when you are pretty much relegated to playing on Wednesday Night? It's a horrible night for football. Kids are basically out because its a school night, any fan who lives a long distance has to figure out a way to get off work two days for the game, or drive like a maniac after the game. operating the next day on 2 hours sleep. (I did that once for an AState game...ahh memories) It seems so counter intuitive when it comes to trying to sell tickets and drive your brand nationally. Television helps, but such a healthy percentage of those viewers are just watching out of boredom, and probably not looking to become a fan of a new team, or looking for a school to enroll at.
I feel for you guys. How about we all go back to my idea and take the top teams from the SBC, CUSA, and MAC and actually build a real conference?

It's rough, especially when people run around mocking your attendance and not listening to a thing you have to say about why it is the way it is...
"LOLNO ITS FOOTBALL FANS WILL SHOW IF YOUR TEAM DOESN'T SUCK"
That's... not how it works. The MAC has asphyxiated any realistic hopes of building a loyal fan base

Like what?
The TV deal would have to be at least $2 million to get any of the MAC schools to move. That's not happening in this economy where ESPN is losing subscribers and firing talent.
A CUSA split makes more sense. Split the 2 seven team divisions and add 3 schools on both side from the SBC.
CUSA East: App, GaState, GaSouthern
CUSA West: TX State, AState, Louisiana
That would form 2 more regional 10 team conferences.
Coastal, Troy, USA and ULM can play Indy with NMSU, Liberty and UMass.

The top teams change over time though, certainly in the MAC. Then of course the good teams in basketball are completely different teams.
But it would be nice to go back to Saturday games. If we have to schedule another money game on the road to make the finances work, do it. And you're right, it's been hurting our fanbase already, this will damage it further.
