MAC Tourney Preview
I'm starting this thread to get some tourney talk separated from other game talk.

Couple of points:

Ton of 10 - 7 teams and a bunch of 7 - 10 teams. Akron is at top.

But Akron has lost 3 of their last 4 so... Ohio lost 2 straight.

Sounds crazy but the hottest team now might be any team which is 2 - 0 in their last two games.

I'll predict we have an upset winner in CLE. I'm still assuming Akron is the favorite but that 8 - 9 tourney line (winner to play Akron) no longer looks so invincible.

With the Cavs upsetting GS, Cubs in MLB, EMU FB, Trump in the election, etc. things have been very surprising. These are times where the unexpected are happening.

RE: MAC Tourney Preview
anyone want to start making MAC tourney predictions or want to wait until Friday night or Saturday?

I doubt this is a tourney to bet the farm on the favorite.

If someone guesses the winner (and it isn't Akron) big time kudos.

This is why this year's tourney will be so difficult to predict. Is there a favorite here?

Most of the games on a neutral court in CLE would be virtually pickem games (one team might be favored by 1 or 2 points).

Unfortunately I have to say WMU may come out of this tournament. Wilder is the only player I feel they have that is close to our talent level. I don't even think Hawkins is that good of a coach. However, MAC Basketball is down.

It's so unfortunate that even though EMU is vastly more talented than WMU, their strategy (coaching) is better than Murphy's.

Here is something I got from the main MAC board. Nice.

First probs of winning the tourney. Akron is a big favorite with the bye, etc.

Second, the probs of individual seedings going into tonight's games:

EMU will beat NIU then get dumped by Akron. Different year, same story.

Underachievers.

RE: MAC Tourney Preview
Here is the record for NIU. They really struggled the last half of the conference season.

As I posted elsewhere the whole conference struggled. Akron ended up 14 - 4 but struggled at the end. And a lot of other teams like CMU, BG, etc. struggled during the 2nd half of the conference season.

If there is a year where a middling team (e.g. Kent, TOL, etc.) wins the tourney it is this year.

BTW, 14 -4 Oakland lost in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tourney to 5 - 13 Youngstown.

Next week is not an Akron coronation. Could be big surprises.

EMU getting some love (and some 'What?") in this thread.

I think a lot of folks think anyone, but say MIA, could win the tourney this year.

Ray Lee drops 51 on Akron. They are toast. :)

O/T: But reading this article, Oakland has a horrible record in their tourney.

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/.../98757826/

"Oakland (24-8) has played in three Horizon League tournaments, since jumping from the Summit League, and has only won one tournament game, as a 6 seed its first year. It's lost its four tournament games since."
