History "What ifs"
I was thinking about some alternate time lines in American and World history. I am not a history buff, but do enjoy it. A couple that have been on my mind but there are a ton more...

1) What if Patton didn't die and convinced Truman to invade Russia after WW2?

Russia was pretty gimpy at the time after slugging out a grueling war with the Germans. If the US defeaten them, would this have prevented them from creating the second atomic bomb? Does America being the only country with nukes allow for world peace?

2) What happens if the Spanish Armada isn't destroyed by a storm?

Are we speaking Spanish right now? Does this slow down development in the new world?

3) What if the South won the Civil War?

I am not sure this was ever really possible due to the lack of resources for the South. Even if they did win the war, I believe Slavery was on the way out anyway due to technology and international pressure with the growing mass media. I believe America would have eventually united or at least became allies.

4) What if FDR was assassinated by the Chicago mafia?

It is said the bullet that killed the mayor of Chicago was intended for FDR. Do we enter the War sooner with a different president? Are we able to recover from the depression faster with a different president?

5) What if someone blinked during the Cold War and pressed a button?

Do we exist today?

Michigan State has one less title. And Bob Huggins resignation/firing plays out a little different in 2005.

What if Texas in 2009 missed that field goal against Nebraska?

Would Kelly have stayed for the NC game against Alabama?

Where would we be if we could have beat Alabama then in Pasadena?

I think we do get to play for the NT. However think Kelly looks at how good the Alabama team was and still leaves, and I think we lose the game due to Alabama's speed

Yes I would not have bet the bank against Alabama. But your thread is "what if" we would have won...that game was the start of Bama's current run...would a loss have stalled their future successes much....probably not....would a win by us just have been a brief wonderful moment and then back to reality in future seasons ...probably.

"If" we did playing that game and won I believe we switch locations with Louisville right now.

I think you're probably correct. That'd make a heck of a 30 for 30 given all this realignment stuff. Maybe I just feel that way cuz I'm a UC fan, though.

France was quite close to coming into the Civil war on the side of the Rebel forces...it would have changed the outcome of the war dramatically:

What if the Nazis had completed their heavy water experiments and developed an atomic bomb? They were quite close to doing this:

What if BillDon hadn't worn out his welcome on the UC message board?

What if Bearcats #1 have been competent enough to get to the last Banter meeting?

These kind of questions probably keep people up at night.

What if Huggins didn't make it to the Final Four in 1992?

Maybe we beat North Carolina in the Elite Eight the next year and go on to win the National Championship. But really why don't we stop this nonsense of juvenile back and forth bickering attacking the past and present. Lets root and enjoy our current
team and quit making this forum so caustic.

This topic reminds me of the book by Stephen King. 11/22/63 which was recently made a TV show on Hulu

RE: History "What ifs"
Kind of reminds me of the Man in the High Castle. What if Kennedy wasn't assassinated? Or what if we knew the complete truth about it? What if there was full disclosure about UFOs/alien life? Then there's what if Stanley Wilson didn't go on a coke binge the night before the Super Bowl? What if Krumrie didn't break his leg? What if the see eye aye hadn't assassinated Jimmy Hendrix? oh wait, that was a Coast to Coast episode. And can we get an autopsy when a sitting SCJOTUS dies suddenly with no witnesses?

Yeah we probably would have got the s**** job ; but we were 3rd in the final BCS behind Texas and Bama and it was supposed to determine who played in the NC game.
