Will there be guarantees for his younger kids to lean towards Memphis? What does recruiting look like without Dedric/KJ here? Will KJ stay if Dedric/Keelon leave? What does Tubby's boss think he should do? Is the world ours? Are we a football school now? Who?

Another factor is how Keelon interacts and supports the rest of the staff. If he works well and supports them, that's one thing. If he doesn't agree with their philosophy and strategy, and is telling his sons or others to play differently, he could be the cause of major issues. Does he actually perform the job of player development, or is he just collecting his check and looking out for his sons?

Parents can be issues which is one of arguments against recruiting Memphis players, with family and friends in their ears. When you have a parent in the middle of the organization, it can really be an issue depending on the dynamics of the staff. I have no idea how well this staff works together, but I get a sense that there are some issues within the staff and/or team.

Imo, dad is doing a major disservice to his sons. First by letting them sign with josh pastner. When issues like this become public several times, it's hard to get behind that player as a fan. But hey, dad is taken care of. Apparently that's all that matters to him.

Memphis basketball was really good before the lawsons were around. Two lawsons are here now, and the team is just an average to good college team at best. I'm sure tiger basketball will be fine after they are gone.

I agree with everything except the average to good part. We are not good in any way, shape or form.

No one is bigger than the program.

Easy for me to say.

Which we could be in 2017-18 if the Lawson's are not in the mix. You play ball for one more season.

Tubby needs to undertake every NCAA allowed action to retain Mr Lawson unless Tubby can duplicate the talent of Lawson's elite sons. If it means Tubby kissing Keelon's ring regularly, then so be it.

I don't agree. Tubby has to be the one in charge...not the other way around.
If the coach has to kiss an assistant's butt to keep his kids enrolled at the school....the assistant has all of the power instead of the head coach.
The program is bigger than any one coach, or any two kids.
Mrs. Lawson has always said that just because Keelon was hired by Memphis was no guarantee that Chandler would also play for Memphis.

The Lawsons have two more brothers coming up, all who will be regarded as "elite". I don's see Tubby doing this coaching dance for the next eight years.

We just lost four in a row for the first time in twelve years, the last time we won four in a row was the first four games of the season, we're just a few short weeks away from (probably) our third straight year with no post season -- what would it take to be bad?

You have a good point, but unless Tubby upgrades our player quality the damage to our program will be far greater than the damage of Tubby tolerating Keelon. We need more talent and Tubby needs to get it one way or another within the rules.

And no Chandler means no job.

Sounds like we need better bagmen...

Get rid of Lawson and just get your bagmen to pay the daddy's and keep 'em off the staff.

75k should buy you at least a good 4* so that means we get 2 4*s

Why are we overreacting? There is better talent out there other than the Lawsons. I think we're missing the bigger picture here. We've lost four games consecutively with the Lawson brothers. Too much emphasis is placed on their skill set. The Lawsons clearly are not team players. Memphis basketball will survive without the Lawsons. I'm a firm believer.

If we lose to Tulane it will be 5 straight losses for first time since 2000. I would have hoped thus group wouldn't want this on their resume but the 4 game is and stems from not coming out from the get go ready to play, lack of concentration, porous effort and a some questionable coaching decisions.

RE: IF the Lawsons are making a power play ...
I'd say "bye Felicia".

I think Tubby got strong-armed into taking Lawson by the powers that be. He was probably told that the kids were good enough to be worth it and they might have been - two years ago when they achieved the lofty rankings out of HS. But now after almost a year of coaching them he sees them for what they are and looks at Keelon and thinks "you were an actual coach of this team last year and this is the best you and the previous staff could produce? I'm glad we were able to put you in a non-coaching slot!" And then he has to put up with the rest of the crap from gramps spouting off on the radio and the growing apparent attitude problem and he thinks "Screw this! The next pair are probably just as entitled as these two or more so. I'll take my chances letting him go and coaching the kids that want to be here."

'Bye boys. Thanks for playing. Here's your parting gift - a swift kick in the ass.
