Hmm, 24th rated basketball conference. 9th or 10th ranked FBS conference.

I'm sure these will go well.

I'm expecting something like turning down a contract with at least every game on ESPN3 and going with BeIn with similar coverage because BeIn offers 100k more.

RE: C-USA to Begin TV Talks This Spring
The collective bargaining with her at the helm does nothing for us. I still would prefer the "every man for himself" approach and let us negotiate our own TV rights, individually. Then just pay a flat due to the conference.

I don't believe CUSA can help us anymore in this landscape. I think WSAZ could pay us more than $200k for exclusive rights to all our games, and offer them streaming for a fee for out-of-towners and opposing fans. Would be no worse than where we are right now.

I say we just give our games to ESPN. At least we will be on tv again. A measily 200k isnt going to make or break anyones atheltic department.

This statement articulates my view as well
"I like beIN's coverage, but I don't think it helps us grow our brand because it doesn't reach enough people."

beIN isn't bad however it will never take the conference nor any team in it to the next level. $200k per team is absolutely terrible. Like MUther stated, I'd rather each team make individual deals. Current payout is absolutely embarrassing and coverage is worse

The landscape is no better now than it was when we agreed to the current deal. I'm expecting more of the same, with the slim hope of being surprised.

I would predict a one year extension in the hopes that the "landscape" really does change in two more years. The problem is that by then our lack of visibility in the meantime may torpedo these expectations.

beIN may have some good coverage but I am unable to get the station with my current DirecTV package. That said I would vote for ESPN3 which I can currently get.

Well that would be 100k more than those sob's are paying us now.

We would already be with espn3 if every school would make a commitment and upgrade its equipment. Middle pretty much has done this. Some need to be thrown out of the conference just based on how crappy their cusatv feeds are.

Right. But the point is it wouldn't be worth it for an extra $7,100 per school. But I can see C-USA doing something like that.

First all the complaining was about Banowsky. Now it's about Judy. Leading C-USA is a nearly impossible job. I challenge anyone to do better with this mess.

They are getting paid big bucks to get the job done. Until they start returning some of their pay because they failed to produce positive results they are going to get the heat from the fans. That's our job, and we ARE good at that.

Well it's not really the CUSA leadership's fault if the universities suck at everything and no major TV network wants to bother with putting crappy sports on their channels. Once we stop being so awful it will help things at least not be as awful as they are right now. It's good that we got CBS Sports Net for a few games this year even though they don't have streaming. I just hope we are not relegated to a back-room internet-only stream for every sport, every game ... :/

RE: C-USA to Begin TV Talks This Spring
I have no faith in Judy negotiating a better contract, and frankly, the teams haven't helped by giving her anything better to sell. If anything, the conference perception is much worse now than it was just two years ago. I agree that the schools could do better on their own.

The leadership certainly bears some of the responsibility. The CAA (for example) has a far better TV schedule than C-USA does. Every Saturday the majority of their league games are on TV, and they aren't scattered among several different networks either.

I agree that we don't want us to be relegated to internet-only streams for every sport, every game. Right now though I'd be happy just to have football and basketball games available to see on TV more than once in a great while, even if it was via a free streaming internet service. Not something where we need a half dozen different channels/means in order to watch an occasional game. It's like doing a Where's Waldo search to see if a game is available somewhere to see, and then the question becomes, "Can I even access that station/feed without jumping through hoops to get it".

Somehow I bet our New TV contract will require CUSA to be shown on old black and whites 19 inch sets with rabbit ears.
