Last year he was not better than Tarrant, nor Woodson, nor Burrell when he was played small. He nonetheless got solid playing time and experience.
This year he is elevating into a solid starter... hoping that continues.
Josh wanted more shooters on the floor so i understood not playing martin

I just don't get the slow down stuff. I guess he's worried about fatigue ? Whatever it is it's not working.

Last year he got solid playing time and experience? Interesting. I must have missed that.
Yes, he has done well this year. He's had quality coaching from Tubby and has responded well to that.

It's fatigue concern. You can't press with 6 guys that are the only ones capable of exciting it effectively. Depending on who else we add next season and who we lose, we will see more up tempo throughout the season. Even if we lose the Lawson, the staff seems dead set on having a full roster for next season with capable bodies.

I'm not talking about pressing. I'm talking about running the shot clock down so much. And it seems to happen a lot early in games when we are fresh.

Tubby doesn't strike me as a lets beat them by as many as we can coach. That is one annoying trait i do see, he changes the style of play to protect a lead instead of continue doing what got him the lead.

RE: Jeremiah Martin!!!
The fatigue thing is overplayed. They get a tv timeout every 4 minutes. It don't seem to bother SMU to play 6.

Half of that is coaching sometimes and the other half is player being able to identify and run the offenses for the defense the opponent throws at us.

Definitely not the case. I don't think he cares about how many points we win by. Reality just sets in for this team sometime and we hit dry spells. If we had the players and bodies you probably see us press for 40 minutes. He wants to maximize our strength but can't to some extent. Defense is big for Tubby because and he wants to press to produce more points on turnovers.
They current commits we have are suited for a up tempo offense. That's what he is building towards. Will he get enough of the right players? We will see

RE: Jeremiah Martin!!!
You folks ever get tired of being so angry?
KJ only played ten games last year.
Martin averaged just under 14 minutes a game, a pretty solid number for a non starter...and second only to Crawford off the bench once KJ got hurt. Looks like solid minutes, and this year he is playing better...typical of most sophomores, especially those getting more playing time.
Does the distaste run that deep people?
Good lord.

If you haven't figured out by now players get criticized on message boards well you need to think about it a little while.

Mimi don't seem to want anyone criticized. Except for parents.

Earlier in the season it looked like he was going to adjust to the personnel which is what good coaches do. There were presses and traps and fast breaks....and confidence.
Now he's reverted back to the old hardline coach. Trying to square peg round holes. Forcing a boring, ineffective halfcourt O and D on an undersized group.
You really believe the players aren't part of the problem, you're not watching closely enough. These teams we're losing to have the better lineups. They just do. Their bigs are better. And their perimeter is better. We've seen some shooting improvement, but we don't have any consistent shooters.
I do love when we press and we are effective doing it. But we didn't do it any more earlier in the year than we are now. I wish we would do it more, but I just don't think these guys can sustain with a short rotation. They're having difficulty breaking through the wall, so they pick times to cruise. I'd like to see us try it for a half game, just to see what happens. If we run out of gas, what is the difference in the inconsistency we're displaying right now?
I'm disappointed we haven't seen any more coaching breakthroughs from those we saw in the early season. But as I've watched the season unfold - and been to more games than I've been to in years - it's become obvious we don't have the horses. Beyond the glaring undersized problem we have inside, we are frequently getting outmanned by shooters and drivers on the perimeter.
We have slipped during this late season. I believe if you put all that on the players - you're wrong. And if you put all that on the coaches - just as wrong. It's a shared problem.
