Since there's never a shortage of opinions (not necessarily educated ones) wondering what people are thinking -- or not bothering to consider -- as to Arizona's new Athletic Director being hired from Central Michigan? In the past, if there was an AD opening, there were those on here who immediately assumed Frazier would be / could be a leading candidate if not on the verge of being hired away. Is he no longer looking, are his "achievements" in question, what's it say that a different MAC leader got picked over him?

I don't think it really means much to be honest. Frazier has been a frontrunner for many openings and I would assume he will continue to be. Every school has different criteria for what they are looking for in an AD, and maybe Frazier did not fit that profile for Arizona.

Regardless, expect a few posters (you know who) to reply with statements saying that Frazier has ruined NIU and the NIU athletic programs etc etc.

In my personal opinion, Frazier is working with VERY limited resources and I believe he is doing a well enough job to this point. He was a little premature with the renovation news but he definitely knows how to excite the fan base.

Time will tell but I am more than willing to bet that he will be gone within 2-3 years max.

RE: Curious
Yeah...the CMU AD had previously spent a bunch of time at Oregon- West Coast/PAC 10 connections are easy to trace. SF doesn't really match-up there at all. His connections are SEC/B1G 10, there's a LOT that goes into AD resumes, so I'm not going to try and say where he stands on lists, but usually need some type of connection for the next step.

I like what 17 said - He is more of a SEC / Big10 guy. K-State probably not happening.

What if i edited your statement to read like this?

He was a little premature with the renovation news but he definitely knows how to excite, but not grow, the fan base.

You're not wrong there. Growing a fan base such as NIU is VERY difficult though.

RE: Curious
I think in the toxic "What have you done for me lately" atmosphere of Division One athletics you have to strike while the iron is hot ala Fleck and some of Frazier's feelers out in the marketplace a number of years ago.

But Frazier's lack of immediate and / or headline accomplishments make him a harder sell at this time. And NIU isn't lighting a fire under anything at the moment outside of a great Vball season and that's not going to get you a P5 job.

Now that's not to totally denigrate Frazier (though he does bear some responsibility) but perhaps more is a reflection of modern, high-level, cut-throat college athletics. I hope NIU never sells it's soul for wins like a Baylor.

At this rate, maybe he should take NIU Athletics academic success, overall strong program ethics, and a distinct lack of student-athletes causing issues and leverage that into a different type of AD job, like at a UChicago or Ivy League.

Of course, maybe he wants to stay at NIU. While less likely than not, it can't be discarded totally.

No way is SF going to the Ivy League. It is the highest level of a Good Old Boys club. You will need to be a graduate of an Ivy League school or at least have a connection to an east coast Liberal Arts school.
