RE: CUSA Men's Basketball Conference Championships (and postseason thread)
BTW I'm working the SWAC tournament this week. Johnetta Hayes has the TSU women in the championship game today so that's another Rice grad potentially going to the NCAA. The TSU women play #1 seed Grambling State in the finals at 2 pm in what should be a close contest. The TSU men are also in the finals but they already are assured of going to the NCAA's since Alcorn State (their opponent) is ineligible to compete in the NCAA's due to a low APR.

TSU women make it but A&M-Corpus Christi lose in overtime. I think Rice could easily host them Wednesday night. I was also wondering about UTA (who was upset by Texas State in Sun Belt semis) but they are assured of an NIT bid.

I watched the end of the Islander game vs. New Orleans. The announcers mentioned he was still the winningest coach at Rice, and that he'd been a head coach for 21 seasons and had never been to the NCAA tournament. Last night may have been the closest he's come.

I'd be stunned if that's the case - our RPI is over 150. CBI/CIT is our only hope.

Perhaps we are bidding for UH to play their game at Tudor since they have a better chance at the NIT.03-banghead

Rumor is that we're in the NIT, but still awaiting whether or not we host.

For reference, the highest non-autobid RPI in the NIT last year was Creighton at 100. Rice is sitting at 168.
If we are in the NIT, Karlgaard & Rhoades have worked a miracle.

The rumor I heard was that Rice MADE A BID to host. Baseball Regional and SR bids are made prior to the selection show, so why not MBB ??

The basketball team seemed to think they're in the NIT.

10 autobids to NIT are conference regular-season champions who didn't win their tournament.
