RE: A look at the positives from today and the current C-USA bracket
We'll have a good picture of final seeding after Thursday, as Marshall hosts Rice for a critical game. If the Owls pull a Blazer and lose both at Marshall and WKU, we could slide into the 6 spot with an F_U sweep. If Rice beats Marshall, we would tie them for 6th. If tiebreakers work as they have in the past, we would win the 6 seed by virtue of our win vs LT.

Also very unlikely, but there could be a 3-way tie for 5th at 10-8 if Rice loses to Marshall and WKU, and Marshall loses to UNT next Saturday.

Regardless, the key will be to have a USM-style blowout in Round 1 for us to save our legs for the other tournament games.

& it would be hard to beat MTSU in the 4th game in 4 days for us so matching up in game 2 or 3 would give us a better chance.

I'd rather play them asap. Bring em on. We still should have won even with the officials blowing the game.

We got our share of breaks from their stupidity too: a couple of out of bounds that weren't ours, and at least two fouls committed by #1 that they instead assigned to someone who was actually good.

We had the fewest number of fouls called on us than in any game all year. We want to the line 20 times (and two misses by Hak cost us the game). MT went to the line 7 times.

I thought it was a well-called game. The disparity in the free the free throws was surprising, but about right. There were 19 fouls called on MTSU and 9 on UAB. In the 1st game @MTSU it was 19 on MTSU and 13 on UAB. I think the foul situation is just the way MTSU plays - lots of reaching...

I counted three missed travels. Disparity on fouls was right as they did foul more. We got away with a couple but they also didn't call 24 for the numerous holds.

They do seem to be running our playbook from the last couple of years. We pulled the big upset in the NCAA tournament against Iowa State two years ago. The next year we blew through the CUSA regular season, only to slip up in the conference tournament.

They pulled the big upset last year against Michigan State and blew through the conference regular season this year.

Only difference is they probably don't need to win the tournament to get in the Dance.

Because we all know a Home Loss to Tennessee St. is going to pass the "Eye Test". 05-stirthepot

We thought to same thing last year, BTW.

Who's to say we win any of the last two remaining games since we are on a current losing streak. One of the remaining school has already beaten us.

I would not be surprised if they get snubbed. Not many at large teams come from conferences as bad as CUSA. They probably deserve to be in, and probably will if they make the championship game. If they leave early like we did, they probably get left out.

You can always hope they don't, Dee.

I am probably one of the few that still think MTSU has to win the conference tournament in order to go dancing. Just going off recent history in CUSA..

RE: A look at the positives from today and the current C-USA bracket
The UAB team I saw play Sunday played good basketball, they when toe to toe with the top team in the conference and had many chances to win the game, but came up short.
Hak missing 2 free throws hurt, it was a crucial moment in the game, he hit the free throws our chances to win the game improves greatly, but to say Hak missing free throws caused UAB to lose is like saying every UAB player who took a shot and missed cause UAB the game.
No one play cause a team to lose a game, its the cumulative effect of all plays called not called, missed calls, timeouts etc..
What I wish had happened with 17 second left to play was for UAB to foul. UAB had 1 FOUL to give and we should have given it as time was expiring. Making Middle Tenn having to get the ball back into play.
So to those who blame one play or player for being the reason we loss this game, consider Eshan should have used his timeouts better, and called for a foul, or the team should have guarded and rebounded the ball better, maybe should have kept Middle Tenn from scoring 66 points, maybe the students showing up and helping to create the environment., maybe Smallwood or Madison should have played more. Maybe, would of, could of are for those who wish to place blame or deflect...The team win and lose as a team.. we win or lose as fans.
The team that played Sunday, if that team shows up to play, we will see them playing for the tournament championship..

What's sad, if we went on to win the conference tournament we would likely be a 16 seed.

Since we have to play on the 1st day, I actually think the 7th seed provides a good path for us. Some combination of FAU, Charlotte, or USM the first game is a good matchup. Then if we win that one, I think we match up the best against La Tech of the top 4 seeds.
