Steve's recruiting
John Gillon's 3, at the buzzer, just beat Duke. 26 point, 6 assists, 0 turnovers. Likely puts Syracuse in the NCAA tournament
Mariek finishes his career at Texas in the Big 12
James White finishes at ACC Ga. Tech
James Reid average double figures for Boise (half game out of first in the Mountain West).
Josh Hagins could have played anywhere as a senior, but literally carried the team to an NCAA victory.

Some said Steve couldn't recruit. Hopefully, Wes "can't recruit" like Steve. Of course, he has to keep them here as well.

There's a lot involved in coaching. A lot of components. Being good at some, without the others doesn't usually work.

Good point. Wish I could figure out what all those components were. Jim Platt clearly knew his X and O's, but couldn't relate to 19 year old kids. Being too much of a "friend" to the players, probably doesn't work either. I really don't know what makes a great coach, but Bill Self certainly has it- 13 straight Big 12 titles is ridiculous. Wimp always insisted it was the players, not the coach, that determined a team's success. Still he seemed like a hell of floor coach- likely the best we've had.

Whatever happened to the redhead kid we had just a few years ago, that Shields brought in, who got hurt and left for another school? Can't recall his name, but, seems like he was from Oklahoma. Played hard, and had a great attitude.

I had forgotten about him. But you are right, he was a nice player.

Taggart Lockhart. With his toughness he probably could have made a difference with this team. He was a hard nosed player that was a joy to watch. Glad to hear he's blessed to be a Dad.

That's his name, Tag. Played hard. Loved the kids effort.

RE: Steve's recruiting
Didn't he have some sort of injury that ended his career?

Yes, not sure what, but it seems like it had something to do with his knee. I'm sure RBL or someone will know for sure.

Concussions. Too many concussions ended his career. Doctors here advised him not to play any more.

Understandable. We sort of need our brains in one piece.

He transferred to play at a Division II school in Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma State. I couldn't find any stats from that school to confirm that he actually played basketball for them. I do believe that was his intention.

Right. The last time I saw him walk off the floor at the Jack he obviously did not know where he was. Staff followed the advice of the doctors and told him he would not play here anymore for his own safety. Good guy and really good player. But he wanted to play so he went home and found another school. I don't know if he played or not.

You can get concussions in D-2, even in high school or street ball.

School's website has rosters going back all the way to 2011-2012. He is not listed. Doesn't look like he every played.
