Will The Road Derail UC In The Tourneys?
We have 4 more regular season games left, then it is off to Hartford and a destination unknown. My lingering fear is that our offense does not travel with the team. For the year we are 47% overall, and 35% from 3. On the road/ neutral we stand at 39% overall, and 29% from 3. I love this team, but I fear a clunker coming up where we shoot 34% and flame out. Thoughts?

This thread is not meant to take a shot or be negative. The whole home/road discrepancy has been bugging me. Is there this big of a gap with other top 25 teams? What do you think the problem is?

Do you have the just neutral numbers? I am guessing those are better but the sample size is really small.

Neutral: URI 42.6 overall, 40 from 3. PSU 50 overall, 35.3 from 3

I'm a big believer that playing on someone's home court in front of their fans is tough and can get you out of what you do. There aren't any true road games in the tournament, I am not concerned

I am usually as well, except we have played at Tulane, ECU, Houston, USF, Tulsa. Not exactly imposing venues for the away team.

Fair point but we played well in some of those games. I think there have been some games we knew we were better than them and didn't come out focused.

The odds say that UC will not make it out of the first weekend. If you expect otherwise it is foolish. UC is not a program that advances.

That's true. The odds say only 4.6% of all D-1 teams will be playing the second weekend.

If you can't enjoy this season, I suggest you find a new hobby.

Good point. The difference in shooting home vs away is drastic though. Home 50% overall, 39% from 3. Away 39% overall, 29% from 3. Two examples against mediocre teams. Tulsa: Home 56% overall, 47% from 3. Away: 35% overall, 25% from 3. Temple: Home 50% overall, 36% from 3. Away: 32% overall, 27% from 3.

Past performance and statistics mean nothing. Each team, each year, has a unique chemistry.
There was a time, when I was a student, that Cincy won back-to-back national championships and narrowly missed winning an unprecedented (at the time) third*. Did that mean we'd remain forever at or even near the top of the heap? Not quite. In the years since, our basketball teams have experienced a lot of lows and some pretty nice highs.
Cincy may go to the dance this year and fall flat on its face. It might go deep into the tournament. Hell, if the ball bounces the right way enough times and we can find some glass slippers that fit, we could win it all. We'll soon find out. That's why we play the games.
* That was also the night I took my wife of fifty-two years to Zimmer's Wine Cellar on our first date. She was, incidentally, XU's 1958 homecoming queen.

How can the road derail us...it runs through us to the championship.

Thanks. We have that clipping, but not a copy of the entire paper. For whatever reason, her name was misspelled in the headline, but not in the ensuing article. And so, the genesis of a family joke.
The ghost of Zimmer's Wine Cellar, I think, is buried somewhere near or perhaps under today's Rookwood Commons.

Road offense is terrible. I will be the first to admit I was wrong, but I do not see this team winning any meaningful games in March.

you can't base that on playing UCF...they make everyone look bad. They have one of the best defenses in the nation.
