Montell Cozart- Possible QB Grad Transfer?
First of all, let me start out by saying this is nothing more than a slight step above blind speculation by me, but Kansas QB Montell Cozart announced he would be transferring today. He's already graduated from Kansas, making him a 5th year grad transfer and thus immediately eligible.

His stats aren't great, but he played on some god awful Kansas teams. He's a dual threat who fits NIU's offense. Kevin Kane was a position coach at Kansas in 2015, giving Cozart a link to NIU.
Everything i've heard, and I've check recently, still indicates Maddie is going to get a 6th year, but with his injury history and NIU's QB injuries the last two years, Cozart might be a good guy to add to the room.

RE: Montell Cozart- Possible QB Grad Transfer?
Cozart playing on a undermanned Kansas team in the big 12 last year:
112/190 (59%)
1075 yards
7 TD
9 INT
Graham last year:
71/127 (56%)
680 yards
8 TD
6 INT
I don't think anyone would try to convince you Cozart is the next big thing, but an upgrade from Graham? I would say so.

Add in Kansas' strength of schedule....27th compared to NIU's 94th. He'd be moving to a better team with a way easier schedule. For a stop-gap guy I'd prefer him over the inexperienced back ups or Graham. I think we know exactly what Graham is and how far we can go with him.

RE: Montell Cozart- Possible QB Grad Transfer?
I have never been less excited about a potential transfer. I'm sure Cozart is a fine young man, academic all-Big 12 and whatnot, but I've just never thought he was any good as a QB. You get into the circular argument with him. He struggled because his teams were no good but on the other hand QB play is the single biggest determinant on a team's fortunes. Regardless of where you come out on that one, is he really any better than Santa? I recently watched the Kent State game again (it's a sickness) and was reminded of some really nice throws Santa made. Many of which were not caught but that's not on him. Cozart may be slightly ahead of Santa because he's played more but Santa has way more untapped potential. Cozart is a finished product at this point. I would rather they give the snaps to Santa or one of our other QBs.

I have some hope for Santa as well. But playing well in relief or when just finishing out a bad year can be very different then becoming the main man. Way more pressure. If he were to fail we'd have nothing. Any extra experienced QB's could be beneficial. But for me it's Maddie or bust in 2017.

Is this going to be another 9 page story with no facts? Slow time of the year.

My nearly blind speculation is worth more than whatever was going on in that other thread.

At least in this thread there is admitted speculation, unlike the Lynch thread which was more like "believe me, I'm close with the team, it's a fact."
Also, this is the exact type of thread to have in the offseason, it's entertaining

I agree. It's a good post by Seven. It's nice to get outside of the box and discuss something that isn't part of the typical rigamarole. Also, MadDawg hasn't come in and hijacked the thread yet, so that's always a bonus
