And Irish and Italians etc., get the phuck over it Conyers. Irish were conscripted into military right off of the dam boats to go die in a civil war that they had nothing to do with. Lincoln allowed the son's of the wealthy to buy out of service.

I'm all for reparations being paid to every former slave. Anyone else, they can go F@ck themselves.

And in another 100 years will They still be demanding reparations for that generation. That cycle of B.S. would Never End as Their aires for centuries to come would want a piece of the pie. No. No one alive today had anything to do with what a handful of Slave traders commited crimes with. Hundreds of thousands of White , Black and other Men gave Their lives to end slavery. It was paid in blood.

If I recall, in 2009 the Democrats held the House, a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and the White House. Why wasn't it passed then?

This amounts to some Congressmen pandering to their base knowing full well it will not ever happen. They just want a "commission" so they can have more free air time to rant.......

Someone should ask the members of the CBC how they were able to overcome the oppression of a slavery past to rise to such power in the United States government? Then, after they talk about how they achieved through their hard work and effort, ask them what is really holding back the black community then since they have shown success is possible for anyone in this country?

Cause Conyers tries to get this through every year... And it gets shot down by everyone .

Someone please just get that man to retire!!

Reparations are intended to put the parties in the position that they would have been in had the wrong not been done. The position that African-Americans would have been in without slavery is somewhere in Africa.

Suppose we said that we would pay reparations to anyone who would renounce his/her US citizenship and return to Africa. How many takers do you think that would get? I think that speaks volumes about the validity of any reparations claim.

The 4 million emancipated slavers were promised 40 acrea and a mule. I would be fine with taking 60 million acres of government land (an area about a quarter of Nevada if you're wondering) and dividing that up among African Americans whos lineage in this country goes back to 1865.

That and 2,000 dollars which is the 2016 equivalent to a mules worth in 1865.

I would go along with this as long as it is awarded only to those with documented lineage to slaves in United States and the settlement is 40 acres of undeveloped government land, the value of a mule in today's dollars, $2000 and in taking said settlement all future rights to sue are nullified and the case is forever closed.

Btw Barack Obama would not qualify for reparations. He is half black but his father was African.

A few years ago,there was one woman still alive whose father was born a slave. She was in her 90s and her father was in his late 70s when she was born.

If she's still alive, throw her some money and I won't be mad.
