RE: J.K. Schaffer
Heard Mike Allen (his attorney) on 700WLW yesterday (subbing for Willie) say that he was admitted to University Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Hope they can help him get straightened out.

Drugs don't cause schizophrenia, they can cause psychosis, which is a symptom of schizophrenia.

Cant be diagnosed with schizophrenia unless symptoms are present for 6 months in the absence of drugs. Drug induced psychosis or brief psychotic disorder are more appropriate - if it is indeed psychosis. Could also be bipolar- may be likely if he said going to court is the best day ever or a similar statement, shows grandiosity in a manic episode. But theres no way to know based on some news articles so get well with whatever you're struggling with JK

Some evidence that a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia can be exacerbated/triggered by drug use:

Yes definately, but triggered is not the same as caused, semantics maybe.

Maybe he just got into the bath salts.

Regardless, he had been in jail for two days without access to drugs and still acted like a nutjob in front of the judge. I'm not an expert in this but how can that behavior be caused by drugs if he hasn't used in two days?

The Lindner's and UC setup a great local facility called Lindner Center.

Tell us about your experience there.

Man you are funny. Do you pay someone to write lines for your use.

You are the only one on this board who can afford to do that.

If drug use has produced lasting brain damage, then symptoms can persist.

Former Bengals linebacker sentenced to 180 days in jail

Quote:Former Bengals linebacker Jerome Schaffer was sentenced to 180 days in jail Thursday after being found guilty of assault and public indecency.

The La Salle grad apologized in court for his actions and will pay restitution to those involved in the incident, authorities say.

J.K. obviously needs major help. I hope while serving his sentence and afterward, he can get the psychological care he needs.

Don't rule out multiple concussions playing a role (speculation only)
