I remember all the cool show flyers posted everywhere. I was actually in a Scentiments commercial that aired on CH 19. Local bands that I saw/had albums of Human Zoo, SS20, Sluggo, Active Ingredients (Louisville), the Edge, BPA, YDV. Saw the Whigs, RCM plenty too. For one summer there was a bar underneath Bogarts called Bash Riprocks that was completely out of control- lot's of underage drinking, people giving mohawks/haircuts.

I remember catching a handful of shows at Top Cats in the early and mid 90s, and Kilgore's (was that on Jefferson?) had a nice little run. I'm psyched to see the granddaddy of them all, Ludlow Garage, has reopened for music. I remember sitting around with buddies at some late, stoney hour in my first year in college, listening to the Allman Brothers 'Live at Ludlow Garage', and reading the liner notes and realizing that my mom's high school boyfriend and long time buddy, Jim Tarbell, owned the joint.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, rath.......

Kilgores! It's a coffee shop now or some other nonsense. That place rocked. Was the first place I used a fake ID while in HS. Had a pop top Groelsch for the first time there and was hooked on skunky beer. Went up to see the River Runt Spook Floaters there and they did a killer cover of Peg by Steely Dan.

Sadly, Top Cats I don't have as much of a connection with for some reason. Used to head to Daniels when friends went there. What can I say...I'm attracted to the grates where the bad marbles roll to.

Speaking of bad marbles..other than Eastside J, anyone here do the Jockey Club? What a gem. Wish I would have appreciated it more then than I did.

Le Club Jockey was home. We hated Bogarts because it was so cool there. I got prolly 2.5 good years there. The final show was epic as well. Most hilarious excuse for a men's room ever. I would usually go at least once a week- didn't even need a fake ID at 15. Shorty 4ever!

Closest thing to the Jockey Club bathroom is Rakes End. That place still does some punk and heavy metal nights. For some old school oddness, check it out.

Check out the Mockbee for general weirdness and fun.

We walked into a mad hatter and furry DJ party last week when we stopped by for the Napolean's Revenge drink special.

Napoleons Revenge at Mockbee is a can of Tecate and a backer shot of some tequila of questionable origin in a plastic shot glass for $3

Bring $15 plus a couple bucks for a tip for the bartender who periodically pulls off the Betty Boop wig to scratch an itch on her clean-shaven dome and you are guaranteed to hallucinate an earnest argument with Charles Bukowski and a donnybrook with the guy who showed up with Hunter S. Thompson who is a terminally menacing mixture of 250 lb Mexican and LSD-25.

Make sure you clear your schedule the next day until at least 2:00 pm to recover.

Ben Folds
Public Enemy
The Ramones
Television
Cowboy Junkies
Live
Phish
The local acts like The Afghan Whigs, Love Cowboys, Over The Rhine, Royal Crescent Mob a ton of times.

Lots of Foster Oil Cans gave their lives like heros...

Even tolerated the freaking self indulgent dreck of the Indigo Girls at the zoo for a girl...Mathew Sweet opened for them and tore the place down, thankfully because the girl ended up being cook your pet rabbit crazy.

Then there were all the shows at Ripleys. Damn...miss that place. The Janglers every other month and weekly reggae night.

Strange and wonderful gigs I caught around campus were Beck at Sudsy Malones. That was a mass of beer soaked humanity...It sucked due to breaking every fire code on the planet...Smashing Pumpkins at Sudsy's, too. I don't recall much of anything for that one because we did laundry all day to save a spot and got completely sh!thoused in the process.

I was a little earlier, mid to late 80s. Probably forgetting plenty but here's a few Bogarts shows:
Circle Jerks - people were balcony diving
Suicidal Tendencies
Adolescents
Cro-Mags
the Exploited
Adrenaline OD
Bad Brains
Descendents

Maybe a little older: early 80's and not quite so eclectic. A little more mainstream....

Modern English
Go-Go's
The Fixx
Donnie Iris
Vixen
Joan Jett
After parties with Patty Smyth and John Waite

Local groups:
Over the Rhine (but most times at Sudsy's)
Raisins
Red Math

Will be attending my first show at the historic Ludlow Garage this Friday night. Hope the Cats play during the day, or on Thursday.

Joan Jett was my first big concert. Saw Go-Gos too- Flock of Seagulls opened up. Modern English would have been nice.
