I'm a little worried
No contracts for our football coaching staff? Did we not realize that to compete at this level, we would have to be competitive with coaches salaries? A 10-3 season and a bowl win deserves a raise!! I want to see us being able to keep this staff together. Anyone else besides me worried? Or am I over reacting?

The latter. Bobby's old contract was extended in 2015 to 2019. Don't get me wrong, they need to get a new deal before the season starts. But he ain't going anywhere and there is plenty of time to lock him up for the foreseeable future.

This.

But what about the assistant coaches? Bobby needs the ability to be able to keep his staff together.

Count me in the worried category not about Bobby though. I am more concerned about assistant coaches sticking around. I hope the Admin signs a new one with the assistants too.

RE: I'm a little worried
Don't know for sure how the assistant issue will sort out, but my suspicion is it will be resolved in a way acceptable to all involved. ODU athletics, especially football, has a way of working things out and doing the right thing, and I am confident this will once again hold true. Right now, I think they are just working the problem (finding the funding), and we will have a resolution before the season starts if not before spring training.

RE: I'm a little worried
Quote:"We've been very generous with our assistant coaches," Selig told News 3. "Each of the last three years, we've increased the salary pool for Coach Wilder and his assistants $100,000 per season."

ODU's current assistant salary pool is roughly $1.1 million, a number that ranks among the top five or six programs in Conference USA.

"If we were to get to about $1.3 or $1.4 million, we'd be at the top of Conference USA," Selig said. "We'll continue to make every effort to increase the salaries so that we can remain market competitive for them as well."

We're near the top of CUSA already when it comes to assistants. Again, this is not the time to worry.

Well honestly that makes me feel a lot better. I wonder what the hold-up is in signing contracts?

RE: I'm a little worried
I would like to see more than a 10 win season before throwing money at BW. We don't have a QB for next year, so how about we see how next year goes before giving him a raise.07-coffee3

No clue. Maybe they all agreed it would be a good motivator to our donors during reseating?

Bobby has not signed because he wants to see the assistants get a one year contract in addition to the pay raise. Again, I have to believe it will all get sorted out before too much longer, but for sure before September.

RE: I'm a little worried
Does anyone have any idea what the standard practice is for assistant coaches at the G5 level in regards to the length of contracts? I thought i read that the hangup was that BW was asking for multi year contracts for his assistants as well. I'm sure that is probably common practice at the P5 level but the G5 may be a different story.

They are starting to see success, and at a faster pace than anyone thought possible. Can you blame Coach Wilder for wanting to keep this coaching staff together?

My understanding is that G5 assistants generally are hired without contracts and are subject to being let go at any time, and this is one of the things BW would like to see changed. As I recall, this was mentioned by Mack Brown (color commentator) during the Bahamas Bowl.
