We will need 60,000 seats?!

Just being real, I highly doubt VT goes for a 2-2 with y'all. Maybe a 2-1 but I just can't see them giving up that much.

Time will tell? It will be interesting to see what LU does with Williams Stadium. A few years ago I read they had plans and funds ready to far exceed 35,000 seats. Va Tech could fill half the stadium for those games? It would be a tough ticket.

Don't forget it's Apr 1st!

Duke and wake forest have 40,000 and below. Why would we need 60,000? After the guest side is built and the horseshoe is built we'd be near 40,000 right?

I just hope we get regular rivals that we play annually. It would be neat to finish the season against Coastal despite not being in the same conference but as their biggest draw over the years (I imagine), I would expect them to be receptive to the idea.
Plus playing and beating them would be especially nice, and a good way to even things out with the smugness expressed by some of their posters on the SBC board. There was a lot of "we're better than you" by several posters with their SBC invite. It's funny how things equal out in a short time. We'll see how the two teams compete on the FBS level. It could develop into a nice rivarly, or better said, a graduation of the BSC rivarly on the FBS level.

Despite what a few posters say the Coastal fans that I know would love to establish a rivalry w/ you guys. We've had some great battles, and I don't see a reason why that couldn't continue now that you guys are moving up. I'll admit I wouldn't want you guys scheduled as a FCS team if we were FBS. I'd say the same about other FCS in-state programs like Citadel, but now that you're moving up that kind of changes my thoughts entirely. I'm sure you know that those few posters on message board's don't accurately reflect an entire fanbase. I don't take what a handful of your fans say online seriously regarding your fans as a whole. At the end of the day fans want to see competitive games. Neither of us will be competing with our in-state or regional peers immediately and most of those that we could compete against have their OOC booked fairly tight. I see no harm coming from locking up a rotating H&H's at least until we both establish other rivalries. I'm certain we will be playing again soon. Not sure if it will be widely considered a rivalry, but given that we have more history with you guys than any other FBS school at this point I'll certainly consider it among my favorites. Until then I'll be hoping for us both to claim alot of scalps in FBS football.

CCUBrad, that's a well thought out, clearly described, position from a fan of Coastal and how future events may occur with LU. True that LU and CCU were THE conference games for many years in the Big South Conference. There's a reason those games were the last game of the year. As Coastal begins it's FBS pursuit, I hope your stadium expansion and major upgrade in team opponents (unlike the weak BSC) will stimulate attendance growth. LU could be a helper there as there is lots excitement around the program now and LU can expect to travel well (I'm guessing at least double now as FBS). And hopefully that benefit will also happen to Coastal. The rivarly will grow and prosper or diminish. Time will tell and I hope the teams play, at least until other rivarlies are developed.

Yeah well I'm a realist in terms of where we are in the pecking order of FBS and in our new conference as well. I must admit I'm a little jealous of your positioning in regards to chances of establishing a non-conference rivalry. ODU and JMU (who I think will eventually go FBS) gives yall more options than us in terms of establishing a serious in-state rivalry. Even across state borders we have fewer options in comparison. UNC-Charlotte is our closest non-conference option and there's just not much there to get excited about right now in terms of history. It makes sense for both programs to admit to and capitalize on what little history we have with one another going forward. We've got OOC September games booked tight for 2018-2020 so I could easily see us trying to work in a season ending game with you guys. In terms of selling tickets a game against FBS Liberty would do more to excite the fanbase on a rivalry week than some FCS team we've never played before and likely wont ever play again.

CCUBrad - Great comments. I certainly hope our rivalry with y'all will continue. I strongly believe there is a good chance if that fir the reasons you already explained.

A potential irony with LU is, with all the hopeful indy FBS games to be scheduled discussed here and elsewhere on the board, that LU's strength of schedule and quality of opponents will be stronger than if LU was a SBC team like CCU. With all the glee that exists in the anticipation, and the unconfirmed rumors of who LU will be playing (excluding UNM), if the reports are true, then LU will experience a surge and fast track with scheduling, likely not able in the MAC, C-USA or SBC, the best possible fits if LU would have received an invite. Go figure!

I think the SBC is a good fit for us due to geography because of App, GS, GSU, even Troy's ability to get the fanbase excited. I'm not so sure the TxSt, ULM, ULL ever really get put in the spotlight, but it's still leagues better than what we had going in BSC. At the end of the day FBS football is a lot better than FCS football regardless of conference affiliation. If I were a LU fan I'd still jump at the chance to align w/ CUSA if the opportunity arose, and I'd still hope we could keep a yearly rivalry going if that happens. I don't blame you guys for going FBS when you had the chance. Especially when there's no guarantees when/if that chance would come again.

I wish you guys luck with scheduling. No doubt you'll have more opportunities to land a big home game, but you'll also be just as likely to have to accept a few extra H&H's outside the box. At the end of the day we'll both be travelling to UMASS's and ULM's of FBS more often than we'd like, but it's still better than the alternative of pounding away at some MEAC school at home.

It was an April fools prank unfortunately.

As for rivalries. Liberty and ODU will have one. Both administrations want it and they will be playing a lot. It might take fans awhile to warm up to it but one will develop. I would love to see the Coastal series continue but I think it will be a bit before we see each other on the schedule.
