Now, there are a few schools who are not playing football at the level they should be, but as long as you are putting plenty of butts in your seats, that is absolutely the main thing. It's not fair to the players you recruit nor the players we bring to JMU to have them playing so many games in stadiums with 4K - 5K attending. No different than a player recruited by Alabama having to travel to a game where less than 35K butts in the seats. Can you see Alabama going to Marshall to play a game where they average 27K? It is just not right. I'm not talking about Marshall coming to Bama, I'm specifically speaking of Bama going to Huntington.

I actually have more issue with CCU than LU, simply because they have not proven they can bring in enough fans to make a "Duke" or a "Wake" or even a "East Carolina" feel like they should sign a deal that would have their team travel to Conway, SC. Go enjoy playing Big Boy Football but knock that chip off before you go, it's not becoming.

Thank you for the congratulations! However, I don't know why having a chip on our shoulder is bad or unwarranted. We've been hearing for years now how nobody wants us in their conference, how we don't deserve FBS, how bigoted and unevolved our thinking is, and how unqualified of a "university" our diploma mill sham of an education is. How exactly are we supposed to feel? Granted there are few who treat us with respect and to those we are grateful.

Ignore it, you will never please everyone especially bringing this to a public forum is not in your best interest. If you want to talk about it behind closed doors then do it, but put your energy to where it will help not hurt is always the best solution. Ask yourself what "he" would do and try your best to follow it.

Who died and made you king? They have every right to feel the way they do.

RE: The Butt Hurt is Real
If a post was started right now on the JMU board about LU going FBS or some great home and home we got I'm sure a good amount of JMU posters would be hateful toward us. Not all but enough to show a trend. I'm happy that folks like Bleeding Purple exist and I hope his mindset becomes the new norm. But at this current juncture in time it's not.

By us pointing out the butt hurt that doesn't mean we have hate toward the folks doing it. Even with all the stuff that was said in the past I still think highly of JMU and any other school. A school is more than the sum of it's parts. But I can't just ignore it's happening either.

BP, please clarify your two points of contention. First, "You guys have got to get over yourself." and "knock that chip off before you go, it's not becoming." If LU fans want to crow a little with being FBS, and after years of being the whipping boy and receiving snobby comments from FCS schools, seems to me they have that privilege. Your thoughts.

Everyone always thinks that a hurtful thought or comment is more hurtful than anything someone else may have received.

Pointing out in public that folk are butt hurt is not becoming for the reason that it appears LU is placing itself up on some pedestal and doing it in public.

I want my child to know that she is smart, but I don't want her running her mouth to her classmates that she has a 106 GPA to her class. Come home and boast all she wants to me and the wife. But going back to school and saying to some friends that "Sally Mae" is butt hurt over my daughter being number one in the class especially when Sally Mae has a lot going for her in her own right is simply not appealing.

If you don't get it, then you have closed your mind on the subject. You guys have done the right thing and you have gotten most of what you want (I'm guessing you'd prefer to be in a conference). You have made an aggressive move that will come with some big challenges, but I have no fear that it will prove to be a successful venture. Some will look at what is for me the "short term" (anything less than 10 years) and see some struggles LU is going though. For me I can see way beyond that, 25+ years and any obstacles you will have overcome will be totally forgotten. I'm not sure that ND will have visited Lynchburg by then, but certainly a whole lot of P5's will have and I see you welcoming 35K+ fans into your stadium by then as well. My measuring stick is measured not by wins and losses but by support for the program and you guys will be just fine.

I guess you did, because I spoke nothing of rights.

If they want to carry the torch of their university's mission, then taking a humble stance will get them much further than boasting over someone else being "butt hurt". Offering mega dollars to the SB who sure would have liked to have taken some of their cash, didn't do anything for them and that is all the proof that is necessary for my thoughts to be what they are.

BP, in the past you've been a good poster here and brought insightful comments. In reading and re-reading your post it seems you are offended by the term "butt hurt" and your perception of the term.

Regarding "... it appears LU is placing itself up on some pedestal and doing it in public." I have read most every post and thread about LU since the FBS announcement. I have yet to see where any LU posters have crowed to the point of being high and mighty with the decision. Most have expressed surprise and elation. And many posts have been welcoming and well wishes. I fail to understand the connection you make about your daughter and that is not the case of me being closed minded. It's about the term triggering some unacceptable response from yourself.

I've read your posts on the JMU regarding Liberty's indy status. You always bring even keel, level headed comment free of zingers several other posters always make about LU. This is just one post that is a challenge for me to follow and understand your point.

I think there is a big difference between your daughter coming home and telling your family that she is so proud of her grades and how smart she is rather than her going around to each of her classmates and telling them how smart she is. I think that is the difference between us. We are here on a Liberty board excited for our news that we've been waiting for and we're laughing at the other people upset at us. I haven't seen anyone go around to all the boards and call them out at being upset with our FBS move. I've seen our posters have conversations about it but nothing as you've described. Even if we did then it sounds like you should be upset with the individuals and not the school, right? Maybe "butt hurt" is a poor choice of words but how would you feel if we went over to the JMU board and told everyone to not be excited about your national championship?

RE: The Butt Hurt is Real
Guys, if you tell me that I'm "Butt Hurt" or you state that there are a lot of "Butt Hurt" people out there due to something good that you have done, then absolutely that person will be offended especially if they are nothing if not thinking you are deserving. Telling someone they are "Butt Hurt" is disrespectful. It's typically used sarcastically or to ridicule someone who is whining about something they don’t like.

Along the same line, just curious, can you point me to anyone from any school who thinks you are not deserving (specific quote please).

I guess there might be a few who think the NCAA has bent the rules for you and that maybe they did that simply to stay away from a legal fight. But everything I have been reading is fairly positive for LU.

RE: The Butt Hurt is Real
I think a disconnect may be happening in that you think the OP is calling everyone "butt hurt" but in actuality it is just the anti-Liberty stance. So if you personally are supportive of Liberty, and your comments indicate that you are, then it is clear you aren't "butt hurt." As you say, the term "butt hurt" is used sarcastically or to ridicule someone who is whining about something they don't like which is clearly that they are upset that Liberty is moving to FBS. That is the exact situation we're talking about: people are upset that Liberty is moving up to FBS for whatever reasons and we're relishing in their temper tantrum.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-809349.html from the Sun Belt board. Pretty indifferent until the Coastal Carolina fans chime in and then around page 4 or so it gets more anti-LU and pro-LU and then it devolves from there.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-809363.html used to be on the MAC board until it got moved to the Spin Room. That has even less positive posts.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-809351.html is from the main College Sports and Conference Realignment board. Very hostile against Liberty with the exception of some posters.

Do I have to link the JMU board? It didn't take long for you guys to characterize LU as the good for nothing, money thieving, diploma mill, bigoted, worthless "school" that sucks at everything.

I guess we're just interpreting comments differently if we're looking at the same stuff but coming to different conclusions. Not much else to say about that if you still think there isn't a negative stigma against LU and we can't delight in their whining and boo-hooing.
