This complaint about the origins of Liberty's money is definitely the college football equivalent of Vespasian's discussion of his urine tax with his disapproving son Titus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Roman historian Suetonius reports that when Vespasian's son Titus complained about the disgusting nature of the tax, his father held up a gold coin and asked whether he felt offended by its smell (sciscitans num odore offenderetur). When Titus said "No", Vespasian replied, "Yet it comes from urine" (Atqui ex lotio est).
Hhhhmm....you definitely went more academic than I did. I was thinking of a Great Gatsby comparison where the "old money" puts their nose up in the air at the self-made.
It'll be real interesting to see how much Liberty puts into football now that they're FBS. I think being independent makes it even more important to be successful on the field. No point in going half-assed.

Here's another comparison. Palm Beach, FL, part time and weekend home of our current prez, has been famous for a long time for it's wealthy residents. Multi million dollar homes galore. Old money from old wealthy families (Post, Kennedy, and more and Trump since the 1980's). And along comes Boca Raton just 20 miles down the road. During the 1980's when I lived there, Boca experienced a huge real estate boom and Seinfield mentions. Lots of younger (we were know as Yuppies then) folks moving to the area who had achieved financial abundance who were buying very expensive homes in very expensive country club and living a very lavish livestyle (not including me, I was hustling to make a living). It was the new money that the Palm Beachers hated, sneered at, ridiculed and detested. The Boca folks were driving exotic sport cars and showing off at swanky clubs and the Palm Beachers were riding in Rolls or Bentleys and dining at 5 star restaurants. It was the same sort of the attitude that several have here of Liberty's recent abundance.

Liberty is close to breaking a record for a "pay day" game....a whopping 1.3 million to host Old Dominion next year. What did they agree to pay New Mexico, New Mexico St etc ?

Good grief! For 1.3 million a game I wish Charlotte would schedule them twice a year. One season against Liberty would equal 13 years of what we get from our CUSA TV deal

Hahahaha....Liberty is paying millions to get schools to play them....and it's working!! I've honestly never seen anything like this. Just wondering if University of Phoenix could start a team and play in University of Phoenix Stadium? I'm sure they could lure any number of teams with that kind of pay out.
Question Liberty fans: I keep hearing the games will be played on a free world wide Christian tv station. What are the details on that? If it's free, I'd love to watch a Liberty vs Wake game!

The games are available ona slew of different platforms. Watch ESPN has a deal where they run everything we produce in practically every sport. We produce everything in house with HD. The only other school with a similar deal is BYU. We don't have cable penetration like BYU TV because we abandoned that format to move into digital platforms across the board. We also work deals with local broadcasters in markets of teams we play. Basically is we play Coastal Carolina, uou can typically see our production on a local affiliate unless regaionals have taken the game first. MASN, Root, FSN and other regionals run our broadcasts whenever they have available slots. And with multiple channels for each network, that is basically every game where the rights are available.

Sounds like a job for Iowa. Scheduling nothing but cupcakes before the B1G season is par for the course with them.
If they do, just watch, they'll win then ***** about no one giving them "respect" for a winning record.

Iowa actually has a tougher OOC schedule this year then some think. Every year Ferentz loses one he should of won (Western Michigan (twice) NIU, North Dakota St and of course Iowa St several times). This year I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa sleeps on Wyoming. That's the game I'm most worried about Iowa overlooking this season.
A Wisconsin fan knows what I'm talking about. Remember that loss to UNLV?

All too well. They damn near did it again last season against Georgia State.
The problem I've always had with Iowa is that they NEVER schedule an LSU, Oklahoma, Florida State, etc. It's always the Wyomings and NIUs. Not that there's anything wrong with those programs, but if you want people to take you seriously then a W against a P5 speaks louder than a W against a MAC team.
Everyone plays a couple cupcakes, but the teams that want to truly compete for the "ship" need a quality win.

Hayden Fry used to...When I was a kid in the 80's and early 90's, Iowa had H&H's with Miami & Colorado during their national championship level years. Played Arizona and Arizona St. Also played Tennessee.

For all intents and purposes, you will still be FCS Liberty in 2018. Just like when we moved up. FBS teams were bigger, stronger and had much more depth.

I guess it makes sense for a Christian school to count moral victories
