ODU vs UVA; ODU vs VA Tech - - Leadership Examples
Teased on Twitter in the morning, Virginia football coach Bronco
Mendenhall finally delivered the “breaking news” the program account promised around 2 Monday afternoon.

The Cavaliers made official a three-game series with Old Dominion.

Virginia will host the Monarchs on Nov. 17, 2018, and Sept. 17, 2022. The Wahoos will travel to Norfolk on Nov. 21, 2020.

Announcing the match-ups during a short video post, Mendenhall said he’s “really excited for our future.”

Old Dominion is now scheduled to play 15 games against five ACC programs over the next 10 seasons. They host North Carolina in 2017 and Virginia Tech in 2018.

UVa will pay ODU $400,000 per game for the two trips to Charlottesville, according to The Virginian-Pilot.
How rare is it for the Cavs to step outside conference play in November? They haven’t done it since Nov. 5, 2005, when they beat an independent Temple team, 51-3.

Who let Dukeman out of his cage? He disappeared for a couple months there with the positive aura of a national championship season. It's like Gollum when he sees the light.

good for them !

and they'll lose 14 of those 15 games and still only get a participation trophy from a low attended bowl game at the end of the year.

G5 is not utopia. let's stop making it out to be.

Dukeman never goes away, he only hibernates. I will say that he appeared to have a great time rooting the Dukes on in both Fargo and Frisco.

Wait, you mean he spent his hard earned money supporting failed leadership all the way out in TX?

Exactly like JMU will at FCS...lose 14 of 15 1-A games and play in smaller playoffs (which unless we win the championship, a first/second round loss in the playoffs is exactly the same!).

Difference is money spent and ROI and to a lesser degree, home games vs. better competition.

If everything is exactly the same (money returned on money spent) then I'd say let's get some bigger schools to come to Bridgeforth!

Right now JMU can only dream of having this type of schedule against FBS P5 teams. ODU is making it a reality.

If you are not a fan of playing ACC schools more often please raise your hand. We need to know who that person might be.

ODU sitting in a significantly larger place and an extremely fertile recruiting hotbed for those ACC programs is a huge difference to JMU in a significantly smaller place and far from a fertile recruiting hotbed. What motivation would UVA have to come over the mountain to play a game or the Hokies to come up a couple of hours on I-81?

Maybe one day we'll find out, but I'm not optimistic either would see the value in doing so. I can see their motivation for wanting to play 1-for-2 games in the Tidewater area where each coaching staff routinely says it is their primary recruiting focus. Heck, UVA just hired and fired a HC whose rep was built on (supposedly) recruiting the 757.

I don't buy this argument. UVA and Tech have significant media coverage in the 757 and haven't really struggled recruiting there. Every high school football player in the 757 is very familiar with both of those programs. It's an easy trip for recruits to visit both of those campuses. Playing one game there once every two or three seasons is not going to affect recruiting for them. They are playing there because it's a short and cheap trip, good for the state, and good for their alumni in the area. Playing in Harrisonburg would accomplish two of the three. And if we have to, we could get the state legislature involved, like ECU.

You should go root for ODU for next five years. Then come back and tell us how great it is.

JMU athletics; we know we can't, hell why should we even try? We are better or accepting our place on the college landscape.
