RE: Poll - Will your school schedule Liberty?
Watch Liberty used their bankroll to play 4 or5 home buy games with MAC/SBC/indies and have a cush schedule that sets them up for big winning years.

Yea, but here's the rub with that.

You really want to be the school that took a payday game from a moveup independent? Its would be kind of like a "georgia state cash drop" moment.

Another problem is that SBC/Mac/indys need home games too. Most only will sell one game a year. And many teams schedule those games first.

I do agree with you on one thing. LU's schedule will likely be very easy. But even if LU manages to get to 7-5 playing a schedule like UTSA's first one in FBS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_UTSA_...tball_team which has to be the weakest FBS schedule ever, they'll not get much credit even if they go 8-4.

On the other hand, given past history and comments from our coach basically saying that he didn't think we'd ever play them as our FCS school and that he wouldn't really miss playing them. The situation is different now so I'm not sure if them being FBS changes things or not.

The real issue Coastal has is that you need some home games. You can give one away game in 2018 but need a home game in 2019. I suppose you could schedule a home and home with NMSU instead.

No matter how badly you guys don't want to play LU, if you need a game, you'll probably schedule them. You played with LU for years so it makes sense that your fans won't get too upset about it either.

I think we are ok for home games in the next few years since there should be 4 SBC games, 1 FCS game, and the other home games already on our schedule.

With 1 FCS game, CCU is full for HOME games until 2021. CCU has an away game to give in 2018, 2019, and 2020. In theory, at least CCU is plausible as a potential game at LU. Now, I think that CCU might choose to sell a payday game those years (and probably against a big name), but maybe they'll sell a game to LU.

UMass will definitely schedule Liberty, IMHO.

I would have no objections to a home and home.

And if you ascribe to the Christian beliefs, by all means seek a Liberty education. No skin off my back. But as a fan of ODU this is how I would like to see a yearly OOC schedule unfold;
  • A money game. Because all G-5 programs could use the cash. This is a one and done road game.
  • An FCS home game. Because it gives you the best opportunity for a win to help with bowl eligibility.
  • One and one schedule with a P-5 team. This brings excitement to the schedule and always ensures you have that P-5 home game.
  • Or a one and one schedule with an AAC or MWC team.
If our goal is to eventually compete for the access bowl on a yearly basis, I honestly can't see Liberty being in the picture.

Admittedly my enthusiasm for ODU to play them is based solely on the fact that I live an hour from their stadium but I think we need some winnable G5 games in there as well. Imagine in 2022 we let Liberty buy out our Idaho home game (I can't imagine ID caring too much about that) and agree to play there that year and in Norfolk a future year. Add in a Norfolk St or Hampton FCS game and our OOC that year would be:

Norfolk St/Hampton
Virginia Tech
@ Virginia
@ Liberty

All Virginia schools. If we're an access worthy team we'll take it to the Hoos and Hokies and claim statewide glory, if not it's still a very fan friendly game.
