RE: Liberty to FBS?
I'm not sure if I'm angered or happy about this news.

Angry because Liberty gets their FBS dream and we're still FCS. Happy because now we may actually find out if JMU truly has FBS aspirations when pressured to discuss this.

Either way I'm shocked by this. Deep pockets can get you just about anything. Money talks.

RE: Liberty to FBS?
what happens when the powers that be shut down Liberty's fraudulent diploma mill and the cash stops coming?

weren't they being investigated over these online classes and its profit motive?

RE: Liberty to FBS?
will be really interesting to see if there is a precedent set here. you would THINK so, but as has been stated here, there is no way that $$$ wasn't a huge factor in this. i'm just not willing to believe that, UNLESS there is a precedent and they allow other teams to do this. i'm skeptical they'll allow many others in this way which could definitely lead to some legal issues (I guess... right?).

Agreed. We do not have a waiver because we did not seek a waiver., because we do not want a waiver, because we do not want FBS any day soon. Just go back and re-read Bourne's recent interviews. He said pretty clearly that we have no intention of moving up to the "irrelevant" G5.

For the record, I wouldn't advocate us moving up as an Independent. I also suspect Liberty will have a terrible time with scheduling.

RE: Liberty to FBS?
Yup. Bet it was the threat of lawsuit that got the waiver. Liberty has the money and frankly the cartel and the rest of FBS doesn't really have much of a leg to stand on in excluding them.

RE: Liberty to FBS?
The NCAA is a private organization, so I would assume that it is in their discretion to allow teams a waiver or not. I would seriously doubt that it would result in a ton of litigation since, as long as the NCAA could show they went through appropriate review steps, they could deny any request they want.

I do not think this is bad news for JMU, if anything, it will give us an FBS team to schedule to beat in near future :)

What it DOES do is add more fuel to another G5 conference on the EC.

True, but the overwhelming majority of its members are recipients of state and federal monies in one form or another. There was room to leverage pressure there.

Coastal Carolina, ODU, and Liberty are playing FBS football...

Think how absurd that would have sounded just seven years ago...

Think how even more absurd it would have sounded if I told you that they would have moved up but JMU hasn't...

Still trying to wrap my mind around all of this.

We're either the smartest school, or run by some guys cruising to retirement.

I reverse polarity on those 2 schools of thought weekly.

RE: Liberty to FBS?
Liberty's private high school bullied their way into the public VHSL after several legal rounds. I would wager that the NCAA didn't feel like putting up the fight and figured it was up to LU to deal with the sink-or-swim aspect of Indy life. If it works out, no harm. If it doesn't, the yappy dog barks itself to death. Not many schools have the desire and resources LU has, so this isn't going to open any floodgates. It might help JMU if it does create a small trickle of east coast schools.

Bourne may have to start lying, again.

Some of us would be duped again, not new, not news.

RE: Liberty to FBS?
This thread is going to turn into a giant Liberty bashing thread which is mainly because of our fan bases frustrations with JMU and we want someone to take it out on. I have friends that went to Liberty and got a great education. I know people that have worked at Liberty and have nothing but great things to say. People have their vendettas against Liberty for their politics and religion which is more of a personal issue they need to deal with and not a reflection of the school.

Fact is that Liberty has great facilities, a loyal fan base, a great geographic footprint, and has now attained a level that JMU fans have been arguing about for almost a decade. Kudos to Liberty and sorry to any of their fans that read this thread. The hate towards Liberty is more sour grapes on our part.

A thought... did Falwell call in a favor from Mr. Trump? Politics got VT in the ACC and the waiver was sent in January.

Good thing I didn't not make a blanket statement for every JMU fan on the forum. 03-phew
