Permit me to start this a day early, not like there's much else to talk about regarding USM athletics right now.

Munz just tweeted that the rotation this weekend will be Roberts/McCarty/Carroll. Northeastern went 31-27 last year, finished in the mid-150s RPI/ISR, and are projected 7th out of 9 in the CAA this year. Probably better than the EIU team we opened up with last year but this should still be a sweep.

Northeastern starting Mike Fitzgerald on the mound tomorrow. Senior that was 2nd team All-CAA last year as a closer. 3-3, 3.34 ERA, 11 saves. First career start.

I hope that we can get off to a good start in every game, get our SP 5-6 innings and get some live reps to some young or unproven pitchers.

What I hate about scrimmages is that you never know if your pitching is bad or your hitting is great (or vice versa). Now we're about to find out.

Same way with football scrimmages....is the offense/defense that good or is the other that bad

As a fan you don't know anything from scrimmages because of the fact you're playing yourself. But as a coach, you get a pretty good idea. In football you can watch film and judge based on execution and physicality. If your defense is in the right spot and plays physical, but gets torched by Mike Thomas in a scrimmage, the fans may think your defense isn't any good. But as a coach you realize that most teams don't have mike Thomas and your defense might still be pretty good.

In a baseball scrimmage, you could struggle to score runs and a lot of people might think you can't hit. But if that particular day you threw 3 pitchers that throw 94 with a good slider, you realize not everybody has that and your hitting might still be ok.
