That's undeniably true, but if you asked them which program you'd rather be now and going forward, you might get a different answer.
But regardless, the league needs UC/UConn/Memphis/Temple to be the consistent bedrock and SMU/Houston/Tulsa to be the upstarts making a name for themself. The others need to show they want to compete in this sport, though we are on the way there for most in that bucket.
Very true. I'm disappointed with UCONN MBB non-conference contributions over the past 4 years. We don't seem to get it together until the end of the season which is sometimes too late. Injuries were a big issue this year but even with those injuries we should have never lost to the likes of Wagner/Northeastern/Auburn.
Like you said, we're stuck together. Might as well make the most of it.
I was an advocate of UConn and Cincy going to the B12. What ever happens, I hope both programs get there together. It's a rivalry I personally enjoy better then Xavier, Louisville, Marquette, or Memphis.

There's definitely something there. I've always said UC deserves P5 status...regardless of what happens at UCONN. This conference is stacked with P5 programs stuck in a G5 world. The basketball games have been absolutely stellar (with the exception of earlier this year ...but I''m encouraged for the next game ). It's definitely blossomed into must-see-TV.
It's crazy that I had no care in the world about UC during the old Big East days (and I feel like UC felt the same about UCONN). But through everything I have become a fan and wish the Bearcats all the best (unless they're playing my Huskies).
Tulane was always going to be a slow rebuild. People didn't understand how broken Tulane was when Dannen took over. I'm giving him 4-5 years (he's at the end of year 1) to clean up this trainwreck.

You guys seem committed and on the right track with Dunleavy...which is all we can really ask for.

That's cool. We like Louisville better. The rivalry resumes next season!
The only 2 MBB programs that disappoint me are ECU and USF. At least USF has acknowledged the issue and is searching for an appropriate coaching replacement. ECU needs to realize the conference upgrade and make appropriate changes.

And I hope you kick their lily a**es.
It was nice sweeping them on their way out that year

That's great! I hope so too.
I wish misery on Louisville. Would be great to see Memphis pound them.

I'm not sure if this would be a rivalry without Mick Cronin. He got so upset when Shabazz Napier got Player of the Year.
I get it. He is sticking up for his player.
But part of me wonders if it is only a schtick with him. He can't really be this angry all the time, can he?
On the other hand, UConn fans and coaches have been on the other side of that argument, when Ben Hasnbrough won Player of the Year over Kemba Walker. Walker came a very close second to Jimmer Fredette nationally, but he couldn't even win the BE POY. The funny thing is, Calhoun went on the warpath afterward because one BE coach left Kemba off the ballot entirely for first, second, third place.

Yeah, I remember that. Calhoun accused Mick of being the one and later had to apologize when he realized it wasn't him.
I still think Kilpatrick was POY in 2014. That Cincy team would have been nothing without Killa. He was the leading scorer I believe on the team that won the league title.
A hero's welcome to the Cincinnati Bearcats this week as they stride across the rainbow bridge into Bubble Watch Valhalla. After Saturday's 20-point cruise past Tulsa, Cincy has just four regular-season games remaining, and while there are some theoretically "bad" losses in there, even a total collapse against Memphis, UCF, Houston, and UConn wouldn't be enough to keep this 24-3 team out of the bracket. At worst, it would deflate a seed that the level of competition in the American (and its lack of elite opponents) has already capped to some degree. Anyway, Mick Cronin's team hasn't lost a bad game all season, which is a big reason why they're a lock in the first place.
SMU [24-4 (14-1), RPI: 21, SOS: 98] Resume-wise, the Mustangs are Cincinnati Lite. They suffer from an even more glaring lack of signature wins -- Feb. 12 vs. the Bearcats being the only one -- but have also avoided bad losses, if not quite as tidily as UC. They're off all week until a road trip to UConn on Saturday, after which they host Tulsa and Memphis to finish out the regular season. If they handle the Huskies on the road (and maybe even if they don't), we can go ahead and lock them in.
Houston [18-8 (9-5), RPI: 62, SOS: 85] Houston made its debut on the page last week, and it's really hard to disregard a team entirely when it plays reasonably well in a loss to SMU. Still, the path forward is super murky: It will probably take at least a 3-1 finish in the final four games, and maybe more than that -- which includes March 2's trip to Cincinnati -- for this to look realistic heading into postseason play.

Better rivalry game for the networks.
Both games would be on national television...
Regardless, UC needs to beef up the non conference schedule.
