Sad times for NIU Athletics
It is sad to see NIU football and men's basketball slide back into the mediocrity
One person leaving the game said out loud..."I can't believe I paid to see this"

I quit buying FB season tickets and now I have to think hard about even buying BB season tickets for next year...

My alma mater is sliding into a **** hole

Men's basketball has slid "back" into mediocrity?

They were one of the worst programs in college basketball and the last three years have gone 8-10, 8-10, and 9-9 in the MAC. They're 6-7 right now.

They're pretty much exactly where they've been for the last 3 years which is a large step up from the previous decade or so.

Hang in there. The hits have been coming hard for Huskie Nation lately, but things will turn. Keep the faith.

basketball season tickets cost like 100 - 120 a seat? for 15'ish games? I'll keep buying even if they go winless, insanely cheap.

So you're willing to accept a sub-500 team for the last 4 years. This is indicative of a stagnant program where Monty has been unable to develop players who have been rated highly when recruited. And his in- game coaching has been awful as well.

All I said was NIU basketball hasn't slid back into mediocrity. That doesn't make sense.

Sad time for NIU overall. I think basketball will be okay as they have some good talent and can bounce back. But regarding enrollment and football, yes.

RE: Sad times for NIU Athletics
Seems like most years in the MAC we've been mediocre in BB. We've had 4 years where we had 3 more wins than losses. If Monty just goes .500 he'll be better than the other Div. 1 coaches other than McDougal, and McDougal was only at 53% winning pct. Of course we had the 2 good years with Molinari in the Mid-Con. Have to admit I was hoping we would at least finish above .500 by now with Monty, but that's looking less likely. Still a chance though.

Not as long as Rod Carey is coaching this team.

RE: Sad times for NIU Athletics
A lot of gloom and doom on here.

Yes, this is a tough time for NIU but that's precisely why alumni need to step up.

I'm planning on buying season football tickets , even though I may only make a game or two, at best. I give the tickets to family still in the Chicago area in the hope that they;ll attend.
I also plan on upping my contribution to the HAF this year. Hopefully the State of Illinois will get it's act together and move forward.

Now is not the time to abandon NIU or throttle back on support. Precisely the opposite is true.

quite right... Wins against NIU, at NIU, used to drop a MAC teams RPI 10-20 points. You guys are certainly stabilizing in the middle of the conference. It would be a shame to burn it down now before it has had a chance to grow.

Nothing is getting burned down, coach Montgomery is under contract thru the 2020-21 season. People are just frustrated! This season had much promise and turned ugly.

Nothing is getting burned down but that is mainly due to the apathetic state of NIU athletics under Frazier. MM cannot win a championship here , I think that much is clear
