Memphis beat # 11 Mississippi tonight 2. To. 1. So AAC is making real progress this year.
Nice win for UC over UL.

Great win for our team and our University--congratulations to the baseball 'Cats. Actually, one of several great wins this season that should raise the profile of the program for recruits and fans.

So an honest question for those who follow UC baseball more closely: is UC doing, or will the University do what is necessary right now to retain this coach? I don't know if college baseball is as reactive to a coach beating a #1 and racking up other quality wins but I have to believe hungry P5 programs are watching.

Nice win for UC over UL.

I was actually going to make a post about Memphis next week, but I'll do it now due to the visibility thanks to last nights huge win.

I'm taking what has turned into a relatively largish group to the game against Memphis next Saturday weather permitting, including my nephew who is into baseball for the moment. The group includes multiple alumni of UC whom have a rather indifferent view towards UC athletics. I'd like the game to leave a great impression on them, and more importantly my nephew.

Maybe some of the football tailgate groups could show up for an off-season meetup, some on the fence fans could check out their first game, bring the kids, grandkids, grandparents, friends.

Anyway, I was just wanting to encourage the board to make it out to the Memphis game next Saturday, April 1st at 4:00 pm. A great way to support this team and show appreciation to Ty Neal for all the hard work they've put in over the last few years.

Let's not forget though that UC Baseball plays at Indiana tonight.

Coach Neal was hired in 2013 and was given a contract extension after his first season that will end in 2019. His name came up a few years ago for the Indiana job (where he previously was a top assistant) but they went elsewhere.

Coach Neal is from the Dayton area (Preble County) and attended Miami University so in a sense he is coaching about as close to home as he could get. As a result I don't think he is going to leave for just any job, but I would imagine there are several high end jobs who would scoop him up if they wanted to. I'm not sure if his record at UC to date has put him on the top of the list of those school though.

Edit: Mike Bohn is pretty dialed into the baseball program. In addition to football, he played baseball at Kansas. Based on what I have heard him say publically, Coach Neal has his complete confidence.

I have never been a huge college baseball fan, but have been following the box scores and recruiting a bit for the past two seasons. It seems that Coach Neal has finally established his culture and started to get the types of players he wants into the program. Last season was a lot of fun to watch. After starting the season 0-7 ( maybe worse?) the Bearcats got pretty hot, and even sat atop the AAC for awhile.

The baseball team got all their scholarships back, and while I don't think we will ever be at the level of the southern programs, I feel that UC is in a nice position to become a premier northern team. They just need to keep building. AAC titles and trips to the post season are not out of reach in the near future.

Becoming a premier northern team is going to be an easier feat than winning the AAC. We all know the football and basketball leaves a lot to be desired, but the baseball in this conference is really good. It's superior to the Big 10 by a good margin. ECU, UH and UCF are often Top 25 programs (ECU was a preseason #6 this year). UConn and USF have had some strong clubs over the season.

If Wichita State gets added to the conference for all sports but football that will add another very good baseball program.

It won't be easy, but it is not out of reach. We played those teams strong last season and managed a 13 - 10 - 1 conference record. We were also 6 - 13 - 1 against RPI 1-50 teams. If we keep on our current path I can see us making a run for the AAC title. UC baseball was basically nonexistent under Cleary. Some of the performances UC has had against top teams in the past two years are very surprising, and I would bet it has a lot to do with Neal's recruiting.

Noticed there is nothing about this win on cincinnati.com. Anything about this in the fishwrap? Pretty much par for the course.

I guarantee if XU had beaten the #1 team in the country it would have been plastered on the cover of the Sports page.

On the TV side of things Fox 19 covered it last night during their sports coverage. I don't know if any of the others did or not.

I just read it. They cited the 7th largest crowd in program history.

Great points. And you may have missed the best of the bunch. Tulane is a regular in the tourney, and made two CWS appearances last decade. They inexplicably stink this year, though.

We are fine. I'm as excited as anyone and am happy to have been there but some perspective may be in order.

This was a mid-week one-off. UL pitched true frosh in the first 5 innings that UC scored their runs against. The starter had a nice fastball but no breaking ball. His fastball was straight when he could get it over and UC put it in play and took walks to move runners around.

UC played a solid game and it's a very good win. But UL appeared to be saving its staff for its three game series at NC State this weekend. They got burned with that approach.

I'll gladly take the win but let's not get out over the tips of the skis here.

Fraction of the cost? That's an understatement!

I've always wondered why UC doesn't have a better baseball program. There's plenty of talent around here and this is still a baseball town. UC should be outpacing the likes of Wright State and X.
