Rumor: Gottfried's seat at NCSU is on fire.
Local ABC station reporting he is gone at end of season. I can't find the link yet. State's official line is what you would expect. "He is our coach...blah...blah...blah..."

He has 3 years left on his contract and a $2 million buyout. Rumor (again) is the buyout is not an issue.

The popular choice with fans seems to be Archie Miller. Younger brother of Arizona's Sean Miller. He played at NCSU and is making a splash at Dayton.

"While financial terms of the new contract were not disclosed, according to USA Today, Miller ranks 47th among men’s collegiate basketball coaches with a per year salary of $335,152."

Geez $335K? I thought VT was being cheap paying James Johnson $600K. NCST should have no trouble giving Archie Miller an offer he can't refuse.

His seat should be on fire. If you had asked me to rank the current ACC coaches as of November 1st in order of who I want to coach my favorite team and Gottfried is in the bottom 3. I'm even less impressed with how he managed to bungle away a season that started 11-2 where he has a lottery pick on the roster.

I had heard Archie's name bantered about but didn't realize he is an alum. That should be a shoo-in hire if they want him.

Before the season started, it appeared he had assembled a roster capable of competing in the best league in the country. Somehow, that has slipped away, and State hasn't lived up to its own expectations.

I certainly don't have any inside information to confirm or refute these rumors, but it's going to be very hard for Yow to ignore them. Yes, I'd say Gottfried's seat is beyond warm. Whether Miller would want the job isn't a slam dunk. It would depend on what other schools might come courting him (like Indiana, for example).

Let's go ahead and get this out of the way.....Gottfried's difficulties are a result of a conspiracy. The planned failure was orchestrated by "Chapel Hill".

I'm going to say no on the Chapel Hill Conspiracy. I would buy into the conspiracy theory that, during State's last coaching search, a certain former ACC school spread some stories about Yow.

Last go round, State approached Sean Miller. Sean recommended Archie. I believe Archie was a finalist but lacked head coaching experience. Would he consider that a shun and say no to State if they called this time??

No idea if that would be the reason why, but ESPN claims to have sources saying Miller would be unlikely to accept the position.

I think he makes 3.25 Million a year and requires access to a private jet for recruiting before he's willing to move. The Dayton coach is much more likely.

Gottfried didn't help his case last night. When people are saying that a team isn't playing hard, or that they quit when they are behind, that can't be good. And those kind of comments about State are increasingly finding their way into the local media. Hard to see how Yow can stick with him much longer.

He has gotten by blaming the problems on assistants leaving. That is weak at best. He or somebody on is his staff is a good recruiter. None of them can coach at all.

I think the most telling thing is the report that "the buyout is not an issue." That tells me someone has stepped up to cover the buyout.
