JMU Football Ring of Honor
https://twitter.com/jmudukeblawg/status/...6714814464

I was wondering why Bridgeforth doesn't more prominently display the accomplishments of our Football alumni. Gary Clark is a Redskins ring of fame member at FedEx field and Charles Haley is an honoree at Dallas Stadium's Ring of Honor.

Obviously I can't make it look nice while at work on MS Paint but why can't these greats be added to the collar at JMU's stadium?

I say we start a movement to do this! Honor the inductees at home games over the next few years.

I would love to see something on that line. Maybe even a digital ribbon across the entire front of BFS. I saw that Madizone had started filming from the old Pressbox the last couple games to let the fans at home see the new stadium. I wish TV could do that to but the TV announcer's booth is in the new Pressbox and cams on the other side would be confusing to narrate.

We should have lights the full length of the front of the collar. Most stadiums have them now and they put lots of ads/messaging on them. I don't know what the proper term is for them? Strip Lighting or Banner Lights? Makes for a much more big time stadium.

I think what you may be talking about is called ribbon boards.

The New Convo will have them... http://www.jmuconvo.com/

I've been to a lot of CFB stadiums around the Southeast U.S. over the years. The ribbon boards are (or can be) good revenue streams for athletics programs via mostly advertisers. I often hear or read fans annoyed by them at other schools because they feel the ribbon boards should be used for purposes to enhance the game experience instead of advertising. i.e., scrolling scores from other games, etc.

Putting myself in the AD's shoes it is a tough call because if an advertiser is willing to pay X thousands of dollars to have their name/logo/brand/message popped up once every 5-10 minutes versus the score from the New Hampshire-Maine game that can be accessed via someone's phone PDQ, it has to be considered.

We'll see...

RE: JMU Football Ring of Honor
I thought I heard somewhere that ribbons might be added during the next round of expansion. They'd want the look and feel to be the same all the way around the stadium and since technology is always improving it wasn't acted upon the last time because it would probably look bad (if the old system was kept) or a sunk cost to replace.

It'd be great to have a way to honor former players, although isn't there something like that on the concourse already? Maybe it's just for All-Americans or All-Conference players.

Rather than going around the stadium what about something on the side of the APC? In some venues I've also seen where they've had banners hanging inside the concourse to honor former players.

I'd be good with that idea. Let's get a movement to make this happen!

How awesome would it be to honor the new "Wall of Fame" at BFS?

RE: JMU Football Ring of Honor
Yep. Ribbon boards don't really fit the current configuration of BFS very well. The only place they'd make much sense is on the west stands at the bottom of the upper levels...to which the folks who would see them are the endzone (band/students) and folks sitting/standing in the east stands (mostly students and visiting team fans).

Maybe pizza joints will want to advertise to students. :>)

There's a significant area in the lower concourse dedicated to teams/players/coaches of years past. There's always room for more though!

I'm going ahead and starting to build a statue of Mike Houston out of fused Bud Light cans. Should be ready after the 3rd national title in January 2019. Stay tuned...just doing my part to help beautify the outside of BFS while making good recycling use of empties.

Bud Light only? I thought we were a campus of inclusion and diversity. Add Coors, Miller and Yengling to mix or I'm sure there will be protests.

My guess is that if someone volunteered to pay for this (alpha dawgs?) than it could easily be done.

I think 90% of fans don't even know what the inside of the APC or club area looks like. I think it's good to have it displayed from the stands so TVs can pick up on it during the broadcast and the casual observers visiting a game that wonder if we are D2 can see the talent that has come through JMU

Inside the club room is the Circle of Champions. It is a group of major donors who contributed large amounts of money towards athletic capital facility projects.
