Use of the word "Redskins"
Whenever I read an ESPN story about the NFL, the comment section invariably has a comment criticizing the site avoiding the word. Does their avoidance bother you? It only "bothers" me when they consistently use nicknames in the article otherwise. It makes the difference more jarring.

RE: Use of the word "Redskins"
I could have more issuese with it if were a charicature in nature of a Indidan/Native American but it isn't--its a pretty proud looking logo. I'm not 100% sold on it being a racial slur for Indians however I do find it ironic that the mascot for the team in our nation's capital is of the native peoples the European settlers moved out to form this country.

Many natives are okay with it, some high schools on reservations use it.

It is debatable whether the Reckskins is an offensive name but it seems like the city of Washington DC could cone up with a better nickname that better represents the city or the man it was named after.

The Washington Soldiers? I don't know. Is that too aggressive?

The Washington congressmen? The lobbyists? The monuments?

RE: Use of the word "Redskins"
I'm a former fan of the team. I wish they'd change the name.

Wanna keep the fight song and logo? Fine: call them the Warriors.

Hail to the Warriors!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the warpath,
Fight for ol' DC!

I admit, that "Braves on the warpath" line is a bit sketchy, but it's a work in progress.

It could be worse, though; they could have the caricature logo like Cleveland's baseball team...yikes!

I'd be totally okay with Monuments! You could borrow the Wizard's new logo.

To people okay with it, and don't consider it a slur: would you be okay with Atlanta calling themselves the *******?

The Redskins should change their mascot from a Native American to a potato.

Has ESPN banned the Chief Wahoo logo?

I don't know; I don't really watch ESPN anymore.

Just read article ABOUT Washington, (meaning NOT using the word wouldn't look weird). And a few comments STILL complain! *SMH*

RE: Use of the word "Redskins"
How hard would it be for them to change the name to Warriors or Redhawks??

Is the name Redskins offensive? it's debatable...

...but what I see is a stubborn owner that doesn't want to budge.

Maybe they could take Jay Leno's suggestion for the Wizards (nee Bullets) and drop "Washington".
