RE: Women's Basketball vs Delaware
JMU MBB is kinda like Tennessee....the joke there for years has been "GUYS play basketball at Tennessee????" followed by gales of laughter. But for the same reason. Way back when, Tennessee had some good coaches (Ray Mears and Don DeVoe) and good players, but after DeVoe had a slump and was fired, they couldn't get a good coach to save their lives and the program really fell into disrepute. Things started to come back when they hired Cuonzo Martin, but IMO the pervasive racism of some of the fans caused him to hang it up and leave for Cal, where hopefully the climate is a little more friendly. Now they have Rick Barnes, who they stole from Texas, and maybe, just maybe, things will turn around. We will see.

I don't know what happened to WBB at ODU. I have heard rumors that it had something to do with one or another AD just not caring about it, which is always possible. Sometimes a fan base will drift off when a team has a couple of losing seasons. I don't think switching conferences did them any good either, just as I don't think it would do JMU any good (for either team). At UT they just finally got rid of an AD who really in his heart did not care about WBB although he pretended to (he had a terrible record with women's athletics before he got there and had been sued over it) and have hired a new one who is a Vol at heart, so we'll see how things go. There has been a lot of grumbling about Holly Warlick, although, except for this year when the team was undermanned due to injury, she's done pretty well (3 E8s, one S16 in 5 years).....no FF, no Championship, WAAAAH!....but I don't think she's going anywhere.

ODU is going to have to scramble like hell to find a coach at this point in the year, let alone players. Karen Barefoot has gone to UNCW and already landed a couple of transfers from Rutgers, and since a couple of players have already decommitted from ODU, I wonder if they might end up at UNCW since she went there......

I saw a rumor on another WBB board that Tina Martin may be headed to UNCW to join Karen Barefoot's staff as an assistant. Really? Also some speculation that ODU may re-hire Wendy Larry, which seems absurd to me. Why'd they let her go in the first place? Of course the person promulgating that rumor is not very reliable, IMNSHO.

Tina Martin officially in at UNCW. I can't imagine how awkward their games against the Chickens will be.

Here is an article with more on the departure of Tina Martin. What a mess! If this stuff is true I wonder how she's even allowed to continue coaching, especially the part about the required "counseling sessions" with her wife! I would hope Barefoot doesn't allow that kind of behavior. http://www.delawareonline.com/story/spor...323536001/

I've always felt that if coaches are fired with NCAA violations they should be suspended from coaching for a year or more. Some are, of course, more on the men's side than the women's...most notably Bruce Pearl, who got a 5 year ding for relatively minor stuff at Tennessee (but mostly for lying about it) and is now at Auburn, and Donnie Tindall, who got a 10 year "show cause" for crap he pulled at Southern Miss (he is a real lulu, btw). I believe Lin Dunn got a suspension and went to the WNBA but she's the only women's coach I remember getting one.
