It could, as could a recitation of other assistants who've left.

It's the nature of the beast if you're a G5 program with a limited budget for paying assistant coaches.

Your best coaches will be recognized and poached.

The good news is that we have some new coaching blood coming in. I spoke with a friend who recently had lunch with our new DC and was suitably impressed.

Let's hope the changes translate into improvement in our on the field defense.

The article is about the 2018 class. I doubt it will pan out. And I doubt he will be the coach on signing day for that class.

RE: Former Rice OC mines gold at KU
As much as I wish him good luck, I've always felt that Beatty was the budget hire to keep the program together while KU was still paying off Mark Mangino and Charlie Weis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they just recently stopped paying for three HCs and now just have Beatty on the payroll. Unless he puts together a good season this fall, he'll probably be out for a more-respected resume than "Rice OC, Champion C-USA 2.0". He took the job for considerably less pay than each Mangino and Weis, and I doubt his history with the program is enough to justify keeping him if his poor results persist now that they've freed up a big chunk of their budget.
