Kent State @ Toledo
Savage Arena will be the site of a battle of teams that sit at 5-6 in the Mid American Conference. Both Kent State and UT are looking to keep close to the pack vying for a bye in next month's MAC Tournament.

The Rockets snapped a three game losing streak when they knocked off EMU on Tuesday. Toledo is 9-2 at home this season whereas the majority of the Flashes' conference wins have come on the road. The Flashes are coming off a disappointing overtime loss to Bowling Green at the MAC Center.

Kent will have to slow down Toledo's three headed monster of Jonathan Williams, Steve Taylor Junior and Jaelan Sanford. Williams averages 20.3 points per game, Taylor averages a double double and Sanford is scoring just over 14 points per game. In the last game Hall and Edwin had a field day against UT's suspect defense. That would be nice to see again on Saturday. The game is being broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.

Got to guard Williams and find a way to score with Hall IN the game. UT is doing a great job on him. 2 fouls is no big deal. Lets hope #3 doesn't come early.

This team plays horrible when on national tv and 2 of the last 6 games are currently tagged for big stage.
unfortunately both of those games are against Akron.

At 5-7 and with the remaining schedule they will be lucky to escape having their worst regular season MAC record in 22 years. In 1994/95, Grube's next-to-last season as coach, they were 5-13. The only other sub-.500 regular MAC seasons were both 7-11, in Gary Waters' first season (1996-97) and again three seasons ago.

I don't see this team getting the bye. We lost by 20 to a pretty evenly matched team. I have yet to go to a game this year and I'm not sure if I"ll go to one before Akron. Ohio and Akron are going to run over us. Nothing has improved since Sendy took over. I'd take Geno back. At least there's some kind of offense.

RE: Kent State @ Toledo
At least one person on this forum insists that Kent State's talent or athleticism is among the best in the conference. I won't dispute that. I assume that person(s) knows what they are talking about. I will state, however, that this team is not very good, at all, They don't play good basketball with any degree of consistency. I can only conclude that they aren't being coached very well, OR too many players were recruited who aren't very coachable. I will be stunned if they win even one game in the conference tournament. I have been following Kent State basketball since I was an undergraduate in the early 1960's, and to me the program is right back where it was 20 years ago when Gary Waters replaced David Grube. What is worse, I don't know how in Hell they will be able to recruit good enough players given that the only selling point they once had, after Waters rebuilt the program, over other MAC programs was their winning tradition and that don't even have that anymore.

The lack of top to bottom talent is absolutely part of the reason why Kent State is 2 games under .500 in the MAC. Speaking in general terms without using the words point or guard:

With the exception of one graduating senior there is no offensive post threat. It appears there is quicksand around the basket and that the basket is literally moving from side to side when Kent State tried to score in the post yesterday at Savage Hall.

Toledo blew by Kent State defenders and found wide open shooters time and time again yesterday. There is nothing close to a lock down defender on the roster.

Kent State needed the long ball to get back into the game yesterday. Forget the fact that Kent State was 5-21 as a team. Who on the roster, particularly younger players is a threat to score from the perimeter on a consistent basis. A pure shooter?? Such a player I cannot find.

I am as depressed as anyone at this point. At the beginning of the season, I saw the disorganization of the team, but I attributed that to so many new players. I really thought that Sendy would take this group and do his best ever coaching job by developing a competitive team by this point in the season. To our disappointment, this has to be his worst coaching job ever. He failed make effective in season adjustments. For the first time, I would not feel bad if there was a regime change. Hate to say that too.

All PG issues would be moot if this team would play defense. They either don't have the ability or they don't have the commitment to play team defense.

RE: Kent State @ Toledo
A few weeks ago Kent State did an unbelievable when they set a record for consecutive free throws. It was a one night deal and probably won't happen again anytime soon. I saw almost the same deal with the Toledo team shooting. They were shooting like a final four team. I don't think there are many teams in the country that would have beat Toledo last Saturday. We probably won't see Toledo shoot like that again this season but it was their night and they could do no wrong. When they were at Kent a few weeks ago they looked very uncompetitive and weak. Go figure.

In the first half UT was making shots. Not much can be done about that.

In the second half they shot a high percentage on easy shots because we felt sorry for ourselves and stopped playing. Not the first time that has happened either.

Is that referred to as HEART?
